Beginning yesterday, playing music via the Plex skill on Alexa stops after playing one song. Same behavior when playing library radio, a playlist, or an album. I’m not sure if this is an issue on the Plex side or Amazon?
I JUST used my Alexa skill for the first time in a year yesterday, and had this happen to me. I asked it to play songs by [ARTIST], and it played 2 songs. I didn’t like the second song, so asked Alexa to “Play next song”. “Okay.”, then silence. Looked over and saw it at the Home screen.
Asked Alexa to play music by [ARTIST] again, and after it said “Okay, playing [SONG] by [ARTIST] from the album [ALBUM]”, it failed to do anything (the Echo show returned to the normal home screen). Asked Alexa to play a specific song, and it responded again, but nothing happened again.
I was busy at the time, so I didn’t investigate by watching my server’s console when I make a request to see if my server is getting it, and plum forgot to check again later.
Tried it just now. The first time, the Echo appeared to freeze. The screen read “[ARTIST], Enjoy!” and half-faded out the clock, but never played. I reset it (“Alexa, stop”), then tried again. This time it worked.
However, asking it to skip the first song, it said “Uh Oh, something went wrong” and continued playing. I could tap the “Play Next” arrow to move on.
Trying a few more time, and I got all kinds of errors, and now it won’t play. Whenever it fails to, I see the following error crop up, with different “Req” codes each time:
[Req#3d05e9] Unable to find client profile for device; platform=Alexa, platformVersion=, device=Alexa, model=
A few times, it gives an error voice reply “Uh oh, we encountered an error with the Plex skill. We have notified the Plex engineers about the problem”, and sometimes it doesn’t do anything at all!
EDIT: I had given up and was typing this reply out, when - a full minute after it failed - it suddenly starts playing something! The screen was still a clock, but after 5 seconds changes to the album artwork UI, allowing me to see song progress. I could skip to next song, but tapping “Next” 1 minute later, it fails out to the home screen again.
Interesting. Do you think that this is a problem on the Plex side or on the Amazon side? Not sure where to go to for support to get this fixed.
Plex skill is definitely not working. Having the same issue with Echo dots (4th gen) Requests take a long time to start, plays 2 songs max then stops.
Had the “Uh Oh, something went wrong” error after the last server update to Version 1.41.6.9685 when requesting most playbacks but a rollback to Version 1.41.5.9522 seemed to resolve it.
This seems to be a new and different issue.
I actually tried downgrading my server version last night and it didn’t seem to make any difference.
Not sure what the cause is, but the Plex coders would be the best place to start. Most likely a change in either the way Alexa sends requests for data from Plex, or a change in the Plex skill. Both of which would require change in the skill itself, by Plex.
Amazon would just send you here if you asked, anyway.
Makes sense. Does support monitor these forums? Or is there someplace else that we should post this issue? (Sorry I’m not super familiar with how the logistics work here)
yes. Unfortunately most devs that can look into this on back end are already gone for the weekend
Dang. Hopefully somebody sees it soon. I was looking for a place to enter a ticket or something and I couldn’t find anywhere to do that.
Hopefully it can be resolved. Plex skill has worked great at playing music on Echo devices for years. Happy to provide log files if needed.
Thank you
Ditto. I can do most anything for support on this.
I’m happy to help as well in any way that I can. I use this function almost daily and would hate to see it deprecated.
Devs restarted systems that Alexa uses. They mentioned you may need to disbale and re-enable the Alexa skill and maybe your Alexa device after that. Can y’all rdo that and let me know if still having issues
I gave it a run today, listened to music for about half an hour and it seems fine. Snappy, even, loading a song within a second, while I seem to recall it took 4 or more for it to search my library.
I don’t use it much, so I cannot guarantee long-term if this is fixed.
Definitely seems to start playback quickly, I use it multiple times daily so I will report back.
Thanks for the prompt response !
Everything seems to be working again! I have been using it off and on over the last day and a half without issue.
Thanks a bunch
@BigWheel similar issue seems to be occurring. Receiving the response “Uh Oh, something went wrong” when asking for playback of many frequently played albums.
Problem started today
I originally experienced this issuing in April which seemed to part of the problem mentioned in this thread and was resolved with the same solution
@BigWheel Anyone look into this ? I have also noticed the Plex skill will after requesting an Album for playback, when it plays only plays one song then stops. If I say Alexa “resume” the same song will play again and then the rest of the Album plays as expected without stopping.
Would be nice to get this fixed
Thanks
@Ambrodog I replied in other topic you made but I’m not sure if this the the exact same issue. Can we get your server logs you make the request and it happens
@BigWheel Thanks for your response. As mentioned some stuff plays and some does not. Albums I have played for years no longer play. I have everything organized into Albums and that is what I request, either shuffle or play
Unfortunately the Backend reboot did not change anything.
On the albums that don’t play I am receiving “UH OH something went wrong, I will notify the Plex team” or “I am having trouble accessing your Plex skill right now” as a response.
I have rebooted everything on my end and disabled and re-enabled the plex skill. I am attached the logs
