Plex Notify

I was reading this thread and was very excited about using it. Got to page 11 and decided to go ahead and install, so skipped to the last page only to find that it is dead already. WOW! Big disappointment. Will try PlexWatch.

If you're on windows, a fellow ninja sent me this link (thanks hthighway) and it worked like a charm for me.

@Monsieur Latte

That is what I am attempting to set up now. Thank you

Although I wasn't seeing Plex Notify itself crashing I was having a weird issue where Windows would become unresponsive every few weeks (sometimes every 7 days) - transcoding would cease to function, couldn't get new apps to open, weird errors about disk space etc etc that could only be resolved with a reboot. Never thought to check memory usage but since I'm not running Plex Notify (and I'm using Plex Watch instead) I've had no such issue. Same issue as @ninja6o4 it seems. RIP Plex Notify, it was a good project.

Yeah Plex Watch is a great alternative and very reliable, just a bit more setup, not as easy on the eyes, and you need to put in some work to get a web front end. i had high hopes for Plex Notify. I'll get my crew together and eventually see if we can push something along the same lines out.

I hope that JBurlison is doing okay. With how active he was, it is very strange for someone to drop off the map like that. I know he mentioned that some personal things were going on back in February. We are missing someone who was a great asset to our community.

So wherever you are Jburlison I hope that things are well.

anyone know how to delete a user in Plex notify that has been removed access from my plex server?

can anyone help with the above question?

Probably not, as i guess everyone uninstalled PlexNotify a long time ago after the developer disappeared.

Yeah uninstalled PlexNotify a while back when I discovered http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/169591/plexpy-another-plex-monitoring-program#latest

remove plexnotify.

and install this - http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/169591/plexpy-another-plex-monitoring-program

its fantastic!

Agreed, PlexPy is pretty awesome.

Agreed, removed PlexNotify when the dev left. Installed (like the others) Plexpy instead. Honestly it is a better app than PlexNotify.

I too have recently installed PlexPy, but I’ve also kept my old installed PlexNotify running in parallel to it, as it has some nice features that PlexPy lacks. It gives me tray-notification popups on the PMS system without having to install any notification agents, and it also allows me to pop up a list of current and recent playback events without having to launch any web browser. So even though PlexNotify may never be updated again, I still have some use for it as-is.

Those are nice, but as my PMS server is headless and only available through RDP I have no use for the popups on the box itself.

If I remember correctly (been a while since I had Plex Notify installed), you can have it installed on the headless server but also installed on another system (your desktop) and then you just point it to your headless server for all the features including the pop ups. I personally went away from PN when it broke which was around the same time the dev disappeared.

I currently use Airdroid on my android phone for a variety of reasons and one of the things it does is pop ups of my notifications on android (you can tell it which notifications). So PlexPy is already sending notifications to my phone, so my desktop gets those pop ups too.

Anyone have access or know of a working link to plex notify Alpha version? I tinkered with Plex Notify now it doesn’t work and the existing link to Plex Notify Alpha looks broken. Thanks!

Don’t even bother with this anymore, it is quite dead. Give PlexPy a go. It’s easy to install and is very active.

I am using PlexPy now actually. Thanks for the input sir.

Yeah, as great and promising as Plex Notify was, when the dev disappeared we were all left in limbo for a long while. Along came PlexPy and it fulfills a TON of what a lot of us were looking for. I still wish we knew what happened to Jburlison and why he disappeared.

Anyways, anyone still reading this should just go with PlexPy. It really is great and the devs for it are constantly working on improvements. I keep hoping the Plex team will buy PlexPy and just integrate the features into the core program.
