Plex Notify

It is a big feature, but I don't think they wull be implementing any of his beta release features. Hopefully he will continue to develop. Remember sometimes people hit rough spots in their lives and do not have time to work on side projects like this. I will continue to sit on it and keep my fingers crossed that he just moved, or something and is unable to devote time to it. Don't forget he has a website for it as well. I have gone there, but it looks neglected.

**EDIT**

I just went his website to check if there were any changes in the forum. Last week a few accounts spammed the forums, but this week they are cleaned up. Possible he is still around, just working on development.

i have loved plex notify and want to donate as long as I know project is moving forward. I almost got a heart attack just by reading the installation instructions for plexwatch and I still consider myself rather computer savvy. No way I am spending all that time.

PlexWatch is a bit to setup, but I feel that I'm in the same boat as you (computer savvy, but it seemed over my head). If there is one thing I'd recommend would be use XAMPP as a starting point. I'm on Windows and spent too much time trying to get it to work with IIS. Hindsight, I wish I had taken better notes when setting it up so I could pass on experiences to others.

He was way too active in this forum to be still working on it now and stay in the dark like that IMO...

I sure hope I'm wrong but I don't think so... project seems dead...

Or maybe something personal happened, never know...

Sorry if this has been posted before, but does anyone have a link for this program so I can install it and possibly an install guide?  Thanks!

Wow, just discovered this add-in software for PLEX and have to say it is absolutely awesome.  Tons of potential here and the front-end is really well-designed.

So far I just can't get it to show usage for my "friend" accounts.  It only seems to keep track of my main account.  Am I setting up something wrong?

Keep up the great work.

This project is dead, unless the dev starts coming back in to work on it.  It's been several months since he has been on and nothing new has happened with it in months.

The same functionality (just done differently) can be had with plexWatch and plexWatchWeb.  It will track all of your user's streaming as well as your own, and you can set it up (if you can edit Perl scripts) to push, email etc. notifications out.  (I don't use this, so don't know if you can send out recent additions, or what.)  It provides historical data as well as streamed data.  (bitrates, etc.)  They are planning to add support for synced content too, I understand, so you can track who has what of your media on what devices.

I hate steering people away from a Server Side tool, but we have so few options these days, I just want to make sure people are using the one that is still getting active support.

Just curious, PlexWatch project is still alive and dev still going?

hehe, Yeah, in fact there's like 3-4 devs on it now....

Not only is still going, they are adding to it.  Hoping to see a sync history out of it soon...  :)

Just wanted to say thanks :)

You gave me the push to REALLY give it a try with PW and PWweb.

PW is pretty simple to setup (easier and faster than PN actually) but PWweb wasn't so much at first as a newbie but I kept reading, testing, etc... and finally understood how the setup needed to be configured, etc..

Now, all working and, sorry to say but better than PN and MUCH MUCH lighter on the server IMO...

The only real issue is the lack of tutorial for real beginners. I'll ask in their thread if they want me to create one now that I really understand the procedure, the steps and the potential issues during the process.

sfnetwork,

If you are the one developing PWweb, then I wanted to say thank you very much for your effort!!  These are features on PLEX that really are essential and I'm frankly surprised some level of reporting was not part of the default software.  I just wanted to comment on the installation of PWweb for a second.  I'm very technical and have worked in setting up websites and SQL databases in the past.  But, I know what a pain all of that can be.  What appealed to me about Plex Notify was that there was one setup file that just installed and everything worked.  I didn't have to install multiple packages and enter command line sequences.  This is what your end product should feel like to the end user.  I get that in development it is hard to concentrate on the "nice to have" stuff like the installer, but without it, I would argue, it is hard to build up your user base enough to make your product viable.

Anyway, my $0.02.

Carl

Agreed, trying to translate what is required for windows from Linux instructions is a put off for me. I've tried several times, but my time is limited and I never quite sure if it worked or not... and if not, what step did I miss/mess-up.

If you are willing to make a guide, I be willing to use it :)

Please do! :) :)

Plex notify keeps crashing for me lately. Almost every time a new notification pops up, like if a user starts streaming, it crashes.

If it's good enough to help...

https://forums.plex.tv/topic/155326-plexwatch-and-plexwatchweb-installation-and-configuration-procedure-for-dummies-windows/

I am so on trying this on my days off. Thank you so much for the time and effort involved.

Had a quick scan, it's really good, I've been planning to set this up on my Windows box the last few weeks but haven't been 100% confident about the web server aspect. Thanks for the detailed write-up!

I previously successfully setup plexwatch sometime a year or two ago but it was missing Pushalot support, I ended up doing some email-to-Pushalot workaround but it wasn't ideal. Hopefully native Pushalot support will be added back soon because I am one of those odd ones using Windows Phone.. and was another reason why I really liked PlexNotify.

Pushalot support is now added to PlexWatch, good news for us WP users.

So recently my plex notify has been crashing, randomly but often, I tried clearing the database and importing it again (i have plex watch run in the background still) and it's still crashing.  Any ideas?  This is on a windows 7 x64 build.  Been stable for about a year or so.

Hey Monsieur Latte, It looks like Plex notify is dead. I am assuming without development it is becoming less stable as windows updates roll out.(last update was back in december/janurary) Before I removed the install I was experiencing a lot of crashing as well.

My install was crashing badly on 2012 R2. It'd use up all the memory and bomb out, and I'd be unable to start any new programs (not even task manager) until I restarted the server.

I've since gone to PW and PWW and haven't looked back.

I was reading this thread and was very excited about using it. Got to page 11 and decided to go ahead and install, so skipped to the last page only to find that it is dead already. WOW! Big disappointment. Will try PlexWatch.
