I have an SD card in my Android phone that I want to be able to cast to my tv via Plex from the phone. I’ve set it to act as a server in the settings but I don’t see an option to set a directory for the files. So when I open Plex on my phone, choose my phone as the server, I don’t see any movies. I only see a message that says “Open the Navigation Menu and select a library entry to view contents.” This may be a dumb question, but I cannot figure it out.
Long story short. Running Android 5.1. I Latest Plex app. I don’t see the “Local Videos” option. Why?
I assumed that selecting “show camera roll media” in system settings would fix it, but it has not fixed it. Any ideas?
It only looks at items in the camera roll (the DCIM folder). it won’t look for random files you have on an SD card or some other place on phone.
The Navigation menu is the the three lines on the top left.
What phone do you have?
Thanks for the info. That makes sense. That’s too bad because this particular phone is an 8gb moto e. Not much space in the dcim folder. Too bad you can’t specify looking for local files on the SD card.
Keep in mind that the Android app cannot transcode or even remux a file, so unless the file was totally compatible, you would end up with a lot of errors trying to playback videos. That’s why the sync option is there, it makes sure the files are compatible.
