Plex on NAS fails to load Movies Library

Up until a couple of weeks ago Plex was running fine, but now it frequently spins for a while, before erroring out (and pointing me to the forums)

Films are filed correctly, and the library even loads about 1/6 times. But any interaction, sorting, searching, fixing metadata is likely to fail.

There are just over 2000 films in my library, but a smaller one, containing 500 or so films does the same thing.

Can anyone suggest anything to look at?

An aside, I recently reset the NAS, which also updated Plex, but this problem also happened on the previous version, which was what prompted the reset.
