PLEX on Samsung 2016 TV, stuttering 1080p 30mbps

Hi, I have my PLEX Server on a NAS in the same network with my Samsung 2016 TV.

I have a file - OBLIVION bluray rip movie .MKV, 1080p, DTS MA-HD, 30mbps. When I play this locally in my Samsung TV Plex App, it keeps on buffering every after a few minutes. I chose ORIGINAL (No transcoding option).

When I lower the Bitrate to 1080p, 20mbps or lower it works Ok.

What could be the problem ?

It sounds like your server CPU is not powerful enough to transcode at the high bit rate. Suggest you try optimizing the file at the original quality to see if that works.

I have this same issue on my 2016 Samsung KS8500. Plex server is WD PR4100 running version 1.3.4.3285 and I have the exact same movie loaded in MKV format. Exact same issue when playing **any **movie at original quality. The minute you reduce quality (I assume start transcoding it) the movie plays just fine. Result is you always have to watch everything at 20mbps to avoid the buffering. Wireless bandwidth is 858Mbps at the location and buffering occurs wireless or wired via gigabit Ethernet.
Buffering does not occur on any other device including my 2011 Samsung TV upstairs so I assume this has to do with the Plex App for Tizen.

Please help to figure this out.

check in Plex Player on your TV the Option “Burn Subtitles” and select it to “Only Format Images”.
Thank me later.

I have also buffering during 1080p or higher only when i have subtitles. i have not figured out what subtitles i have to choose to play direct.

any subtitles i have testet do break the direct play.

Look at the Samsung Spec. My 55KU6170 supports only 20 mbps on h264 codec at 1080p. 4 k it supports 60 in h264 and 80 in Hevc.

Best regards

Late response but I had stutter issue on a new Samsung 7 series. Went to settings in the app and changed the “maximum h. 264 level” to none and the annoying stutter (not buffering) stopped on all playbacks. Hope it helps if not a little too late.
