I was wondering if there were plans for releasing a Plex app for the UK-based YouView platform (http://www.youview.com & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouView) in the near future. The platform is now fully mature and has millions of UK users because of both BT/Talk Talk subscriber tie-ins and excellent award winning retail boxes. The platform is set to expand further with Sony's 2015 smart TVs that will now come with the YouView platform built-in (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a626570/sonys-2015-smart-tvs-now-come-with-built-in-youview.html#~p4CBVQNvSwPYw1).
As a retail box customer myself I am already enjoying Netflix on our box day-to-day as well as our standard Freeview+ HD channels and am seeing more and more of my family and friends move over to the YouView boxes because of its wide range of services. It would be good if there were a Plex app as well so that we could view all our media from a single platform rather than having to jump from PC to Chromecast to Smart TV to Tablet, etc.
I would love to see this feature added. I'd really like one box under my TV that can do everything I need. At the minute youview is close, just needs plex for me.
I'm close to buying a generic Humax player (http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/ is the provider of YouView boxes) but the fact it does not have a Plex app is the only thing stopping me right now. I 100% agree it would be great to have one box under the TV that streams everything. Sadly, Humax told me this today..
I too would love to see this. The YouView interface is excellent, I even prefer it to my Sky box which I have always found very intuitive, and I'd love to see how Plex could be adapted for this. Throw in some powerful hardware (recently bought the BT DTR-2100 which is super responsive) and you're on to a winner.
Sony have started offering YouView built into their new TVs and as far as I recall you can't get Plex on most Sony TVs, so it would be a plus for them. YouView have recently added the apps section and Netflix is included, but the platform is still very locked down. I question whether something started by the major broadcasters would ever be opened up to apps like Plex but fingers crossed!
Until then, I wonder if the boxes can be rooted and a Plex client designed unofficially....
Any news yet about development of a Plex client for the YouView platform?? I use the Samsung Tizen OS version of Plex at the moment and the Sammy TV’s Wifi is a little ropey to say the least - however the interface for the Plex app running on Tizen OS is fantastic.
Please can whoever reads this - and wants to develop the Plex client for the YouView platform - use this one as a basis for their design. It’s a knock-out design and would really shine on the YV boxes.
I am a tester on the YouView NextGen and I can say that the demand for Plex on their forums is as great as on here - why is it seemingly so difficult for these two organisations to work together and produce a Plex App
