Plex Pass Lifetime if Plex shuts down

Lol! Sorry, i probably am just used to having weekly server updates with cool new features. Am I getting too demanding of the developers? Lol! I just need them to develop the music library too and don’t leave it as it is right now. I still have my spotify account because tidal just doesnt do it for me, or my own music library.

We had a World-Wide Plex.tv outage yesterday and I went right on viewing locally without issue - the same way I do when the internet goes out (often).

Server = Preferred, instead of Required or Disabled
Clients = Fall back to insecure on local network only

I have been told that doesn’t work for everybody, but it does work for me (and a whole bunch of others), for some reason (maybe 'cause the outage didn’t torpedo my NAS - if I had one).

back when I had my Tivo service I opted not to pay for a month just to see what would happen and I got locked out of usage and this was for local OTA service… sooooo before anyone says anything about Plex, I bet they’ve not paid $200 for a DVR box and pay $20 per month for 5 years for guide service. When I’ve looked into something like Roon for music, plunking down $700 just for the right to use the software doesn’t sit well with me, yet. I don’t expect anything to last forever, but by the time Plex does die, I’m certain we will have alternatives.

@JuiceWSA: this was independent from the plex outage a day before.

it does not work if the app is started new and has to re-login. this is wat happened today with all the apps and during the outage as my plex server (as many others) crashed at the same time the plex service went down and i had to manually restart it which not really worked without the plex infrastructure.

so in most cases plex will not work if any of the components stop working or have to be restarted.

just saw there is another problem on the backend… and agin only plex web sort of works. nothing else. this is a real pain…

ikr. good comparison with tivo. and we all know how they turned out. lol.

i wouldn’t mind paying for the software only, but plex wants a sub model. if i could just buy the software outright and supply my own guide data, it might work for me. its hard to justify any monthly payment to plex or others when they aren’t offering any kind of value added service.

if anything, i’m glad i opened this thread to hear yours and other’s take. to each their own, but its hard to justify any additional cost when i don’t pay for tv to begin with.
