Plex Pass Perks not visible until you're a subscriber? Seems backwards

So, as a fairly new user that’s liking what I see, and considering subscribing to the lifetime Plex Pass, I’m a bit confused as to why only Plex Pass subscribers can see what the Perks are. Wouldn’t it seem more appropriate to show everyone so that non-subscribers could see what additional value exists?

I could see two reasons why the Perks aren’t shown until after becoming a Plex Pass member:

  1. Some sort of contractual reason with the partners that are offering the Perks
  2. There aren’t many Perks available and/or they don’t add any real value

Can someone explain why the benefits of membership aren’t shown to me until after I become a member? In other words, why do I have to buy something to see what I’ve bought?

Where arn’t you able to see the perks at?

This page: https://www.plex.tv/features/plex-pass/

allows me to scroll down through the big fancy pictures and explanations to a chart that has the differences between the free version and the premium (plex pass) version. If something is unclear, let me know and I will do my best to explain or see if it needs to be updated to make it more clear.

I think he’s referring to this:

As a Plex Pass subscriber, you get exclusive access to Plex Pass Perks, offering you discounts and deals, early looks, and VIP experiences from our partners.

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that at one time (maybe still current), subscribers could get a discount on an HDHomeRun box. Had I seen that when I researched the DVR capability for Plex Pass folks, it probably would have convinced me to go that route. As it is, I didn’t know, so went down a different path.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, if that is the case there isn’t much that can be done in revealing what specials one of Plex’s partners will have until the deal is negotiated. The current deals can be found here: https://www.plex.tv/plex-pass-perks/ but like you mentioned they do require a plex pass to view. I am double checking to see if there is a way to view them without a plex pass. (Currently the HDHomeRun deal is no longer happening)

Most deals are typically a 30 day thing with the current one set to expire on the 31st. They also do vary by region as well. (IE The current WD 20% off WD My passport wireless pro is only for the European market). The only deal set to expire longer right now is the 10% off drobo storage products.

Try logging out of the Plex site and following that link. You’ll see this at the bottom of the page:

“To gain access to promotions from our partners, you must have a Plex Pass. Please sign in with your Plex Pass enabled account or click the button below to learn more about all the goodies you get by upgrading.”

I can totally understand the first sentence. Kind of hard to take advantage of a Perk if I haven’t identified myself (by logging in) and showing that I’m eligible for the perk. The second sentence is what has me confused.

First of all, I can’t even SEE the Perks unless I have a Plex Pass. No idea what is available WITH a Plex Pass unless I already -have- the Plex Pass. So, why do I need to sign in with a Plex Pass enabled account (already have it) to see what “goodies” are available to me if I pay for it?

If Plex Perks is an advantage for those that pay for the Plex Pass, why aren’t the offers shown to NON Pass holders as a way to entice them to subscribe? AAA shows you the money you’d save on things along with the services you get before you subscribe, the television company shows you the programming you’ll get before you subscribe, why doesn’t Plex show you ALL the things you’ll get before you subscribe?

May be it is because the perks should not be the reason for you to subscribe for Plex Pass. Just my personal thoughts on the matter

Maybe they are the sole reason I join. Maybe they have nothing to do with my decision. Maybe they’re the last little bit of what I needed to see to understand -all- the value that joining gets me.

In any event, it should really be my decision, shouldn’t it? Why is it hidden? That’s the crux of the question here.

Maybe Plex doesn’t want someone joining Plex-Pass for only 1 month just to take advantage of a Perk with no intention of continuing with the Pass?!?!? Or maybe they think a person will join, use a code then cancel the Plex-Pass. People do all kinds of crazy things.

I think it’s probably clear it’s a PERK and not meant to get you hooked on the Plex-Pass.

I could see where that’s possible. I am looking at it from the perspective of just buying the lifetime pass, so I hadn’t thought about the possibility of signing up for a single month and then canceling.

Perk labelling needs to be a bit clearer too . I tried to get Dropbox Pro deal but was refused because I was already a ‘Free’ customer as opposed to a ‘new’ one . They apparently preferred to make no money out of me rather than some ;O)
