Back in the day, Netflix introduced a Personal Assistant exclusive to PS3 users. This feature was called “Max”. He would ask you a series of questions to figure out what kind of mood you were in. Based on your answers it would randomly Pick a Movie or TV Show for you. for years i used this feature and really loved it. I think plex would be the perfect platform to reintroduce a personal assistant similar to Max. Max was also very goofy and had a personality

I think this is one of the most horrible ideas I have ever seen presented in the Plex forums.
It not only would be intrusive but, even if it could be turned off so people would never see it, it would mean some developer or several would waste their time developing and debugging worthless code. Also anytime you add code to a complex system you have the strong potential to introduce bugs so every single developer would have to spend time making sure the addition did not cause some interaction bug.
The last thing is personal: I do not want a machine making suggestions. I know what my “mood” is and all I want from Plex is to display my movies and TV shows so that I can browse them and make my own decisions about what I want to watch.
There are good reasons why that did not catch on with Netflix; people generally did not use it and there were, probably, a lot of complaints.
The hub ‘top unplayed movies’ works great for me.
You can pin it to the home screen for easy access.
Just like the original feature on Netflix, you don’t have to use it. Just because you didn’t like it doesn’t mean others didn’t. It was an extremely popular feature that still has a lot of support trying to get it back to Netflix. Netflix only removed it because they didn’t think enough people used it. but the issue with that claim was that it was exclusive to the PS3. During that generation it was the lowest selling console of that generation. They also removed the feature before the PS3 started taking off. But they found that over half of the Netflix users on the PS3 were actually using it.
I’m not asking for an exact copy. But with a library like mine (over 6000 movies and TV shows) sometimes I find myself browsing for what seems like forever to find a movie. I had the same issue with Netflix and Max on Netflix was a great way of having movies decided for you.
Again, like I mentioned above. It may not be a feature you want, but others did really enjoy it who owned a PS3. And like the Netflix feature, if it’s not used, it automatically gets moved out of the way. We could have a little icon somewhere within Plex that does movie trivia based on the movies in your Plex and even finds movies within your library that you might want to watch next based on your viewing habits. This feature is kinda useless for smaller servers. But I have over 6000 movies and it’s constantly growing. I often completely forget what I have and it’s nice to have that sort of stuff resurface. Rather I’ve seen it yet or not.
“Top unwatched” is useless for me because I have over 10 people using my Plex and have for over 4 years. So it’s rare I have a movie in my library that hasn’t been watched before.

I just looked at your profile and you seem to complain a lot about the choices made by Plex. Like disagreeing with the introduction of podcast simply because you don’t like podcast. Again like I’ve mentioned in my last reply. If you don’t like the feature, don’t use it. But don’t assume nobody else wants it. You can do a simple google search of this old Netflix feature and can see many requests to bring it back. It is and was a very popular feature for PS3 users.
It is not mainly that I don’t like it rather it is that Plex would have to expend a great deal of resources both implementing it and then every single developer would have to check that it does not cause problems with his/her code. Adding any feature is developer intensive and not just the developer involved but all the others.
I have not liked much of what Plex has done in the last few years because I think they have lost their focus on producing software that is functional and not too intrusive.
I have the right to comment as I see fit about features that are being suggested and you do not have the right to criticize me personally. We do not see eye to eye on this feature and that really does not matter much as it is unlikely that it will get implemented because it is such a hideously bad idea.
There is also the clue that Netflix never expanded it beyond the test market. I really do think that, if many people, not just a small number of vocal people, really used it on the test platform then I am sure Netflix would have expanded it to as many other platforms as possible and they would have used it to add money to their coffers by including it in their advertising. Netflix is VERY good at making money and they would only fail to expand a feature that could draw users if they felt it would not do that.
I will not use it should it get implemented but that is not the problem with it. The problem is that I feel that implementing it would be at much to great a cost to Plex.
A better idea would be to leverage google/Alexa/Siri into picking a random video you may or may not want to see.

I love that! The assistant is already established. I guess a better move would be to add in Plex commands or somehow intergrate those assistants. There are a lot of apps out there that you can use to pretty much customize it to mimic Max. That wouldn’t require much effort on Plex beyond just adding in the support for an already established assistant. This is probably why Netflix never brought back Max, because I can use my Google home to tell my Roku to play a random movie. Like “hey google, play a Jim Carrey Movie on Netflix” it opens my Netflix on the Roku and randomly picks a Jim carry movie.
