Plex playback of mpegts (DVR) files on Apple devices - Is a total FAIL

I have now counted a minimum of 5-6 threads (posted over 3-6 months) demonstrating DVR file (Plex, SD, Channels recordings) playback which are totally not working, unless one has a VERY, VERY high powered server for playback on Apple devices.

Plex transcoding for the native mpegts recorded files is NOT working. Also, Plex only transcodes these files from the server and DOES NOT utilize SW mpeg2 decoding capabilities (available on Apple clients). Even the native capabilities of a Shield (server native capablities of transcoding mpegts) are not tapped (at least) when playing back to Apple devices.

At a minimum, IPad Pro (iOS)and tvOS (Apple TV 4th gen & 4K units) are very capable of receiving mpegts streams and playing same with SW decoding. Shield is capable of serving transcoded mpegts files. However, Plex is not utilizing any of these capabilities.

Plex has always been a premier player (up to now), but it is severely lacking in even being able to play it’s own DVR recordings to Apple devices. Infuse, MrMC and Channels are able to play these mpegts files. (Although, Channels is limited to it’s own recordings).

Why is Plex so far behind? This deficiency makes me highly regret purchasing Plex Pass. It’s been over a year now and no response from Plex. Are we ever going to be able play DVR recordings on iOS or tvOS from Plex? Or should we all move on to the more capable players?

Note: Playback on Apple devices may utilize HW decoding, in addition to SW decoding.
