Plex player cannot play back 480p H264, transcodes to H.264 otherwise green video

This is happening on Mi Box 3 and Mi Box S. I am playing back a home video, that is in MP4 format. When I look at the dashboard, it shows me that it’s 480p H.264.

When played back, it’s showing all kinds of green on the screen over the video, if it’s in “play back directly”. If I set it to “Auto Transcode”, in the dashboard it shows that it’s being transcoded to 480P H264 (note the capital P and that there is no dot after the H).

What is this all about? I tried both the "new player’ and not the new player. Same thing.
Can Plex not handle older 480p videos, is that where we are now?

If I play the video through my laptop’s web browser, it plays direct and there is no green, plays back normally.

Can you post the XML for that video?

Here you go… not sure it won’t let me post the xml code, I copy/paste below but then when I look at the post it’s not there.

Your file is a little unusual but nothing too strange (at least to me) that would indicate a problem, but who knows. It could be something specific with the file that the app doesn’t like. I will need a sample to test if you have something that’s about 1-minute long that you don’t mind sharing with me.

I’ll have to see if I can do that. 1 min seems pretty long…
thanks

Fine, 30s.

Check and make sure you get the same problem, then provide me that sample.

sorry haven’t had the time, but didn’t forget

how come I can’t create a new post?? is there an issue with the forums?

No issues I’m aware of. Are you not seeing the option to start a new post or getting some error when you try?

With my laptop, on Chrome, I don’t see an option to start a new topic when I head over to the “Android-TV” section (link at the top of this page).

If I use my phone, to open this thread, click on the “Android-TV” section in the same way, I see a + New Topic link on the page, as well as the Info tag icon and the little bell icon.

You are viewing tags. You need to be in a category to start a post.

Edit - To be clear, this drop down at the top.

Otherwise the thread won’t have a home (bottom arrow).

Hmm it was weird, when I posted I could not get the new post link to come up no matter where I was. But what you said is strange, the behaviour you describe is not what happens on the phone. When I click the android tv tag, I have a new post link at the top…
