Plex Player immediate crash when playing specific 4k HEVC file

This issue affects Plex (Player) on MacOS (Intel & Apple Silicon) and TVOS (all on the latest version available as of July 2023) but logs and CrashReport provided are from the macOS version as easier for getting logs

Video file (MKV container) available on demand (shortened to 83Mb for easier transfert).
Video file works as expected in VLC (macOS, AppleTV), INA (macOS) but crashes on Plex (macOS, Apple TV). Apple TV hardware : latest AppleTV 4k.

[UPDATE] Removed any references to Plex on iOS because I was not able to reproduce the crash on this platform.
[UPDATE 2] Reported additional test on macOS Intel and macOS Apple Silicon

By reading other articles I tried additional testing. Disabling hardware decoding in Plex macOS Player prevent the crash. Both on an macOS Ventura for Intel and for macOs for Apple Silicon.
On AppleTV there is no option to disable hardware decoding so the crash is persistent.
on iOS, however, I was not able to reproduce the crash with test file

So, in resume:

  • macOS: Ko
  • AppleTV: Ko
  • iOS: Ok (tested on iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPad Pro M1)
