Server Version#: 1.16.3.1433
I’ve been trying to get Plex working with my dual WAN setup for a week now but haven’t been able to figure it out.
Network setup:
WAN #1 (1000mbps down/20 mbps up) - I want to use this as my primary internet connection for all my devices. This WAN is hooked up to an ASUS router.
WAN #2 (200mbps down/200mbps up) - I want to route all Plex traffic through here since it has significantly more upload. This WAN is provided by a modem/router combo from the second ISP.
My Plex server is hosted on a Windows 10 machine with dual NICs - NIC1 is connected to the WAN #1 router, NIC2 is connected to the WAN #2 router. I’ve set the IPV4 metric on NIC1 lower than NIC2 and as expected, all Windows applications will connect to the internet through WAN #1. I then set Plex’s preferred network interface to NIC2. Despite this, when I load up the Remote Access tab, it will show my WAN#1 IP address as the public IP and then tell me the server is not accessible from outside the network. If I disable NIC1, it will immediately show WAN #2 IP address as the public IP and is fully accessible from outside the network. If I reenable NIC1, it will show WAN #1 IP address again and “not accessible”
What am I missing? It seems like the Preferred Network Interface setting isn’t actually binding Plex to NIC2 - it just binds to whatever NIC has the lowest metric.
