Windows Server—‘Preferred Network Interface’ setting and dual WAN

Does anyone have any experience with the server option “preferred network interface”?

I have two WAN adapters on my Windows Plex server and I’m trying to get Plex to bind to a specific interface, but am not having much luck.

That “preferred network interface” option is blank with no option for a drop down selection. I’ve tried a few different entries but haven’t had much luck. On a Linux based server you might put something like eth02 in the box, but Windows is different.

Any suggestions, or possible alternative ways to achieve my objective?

Thanks!

You enter the IP address of the interface that you want Plex to use…
Like 192.168.1.17, same address you use to access it with the port :32400

edit: also it should be a static IP, doesn’t do much good if it keeps changing…

Hmm. Plex still seems to get confused by my 2nd interface and binds to it after a few minutes.

Oh well.

Dear all,

Me too have a Qnap and I wish Plex to use the 2nd interface. But no matter what I do, it keeps using the 1st interface. Even when I set the 2nd interface on the Qnap as the default gateway, Plex is using the 1st. And yes, I set the prefered Interface in Plex on the IP for the 2nd interface.

I hope Plex can solve this,.

Regards,
Hans
