Plex Preview and Roku Developer Conference 2021

This is more a query and hopefully get the answer from a Dev or someone in the know.
As of March 2022 Roku is ditching the private channels and going for a Beta channels section, great I hear you say? Well the downside of this is only 20 users will be able to test/stream from a beta channel/app.
My question is, how will Plex deal with this on Roku from 2022? Will we lose the Preview build that everyone who tests it, or will the preview version be available in the Roku Store like the public version?

I along with 10 members of my family and friends use the preview version and any issues, I post if I remember to!! This would be a great loss if Roku pull the Preview to 20 user limit.

Any news or info on this?

Regards and happy streaming!!

We will have to respect and adhere to Roku’s requirements.

From what we can tell right now, the preview channel will no longer be available as-is, once Roku enforces this requirement. That is, private channels are going away and beta channels will be the new norm. We will have to create a beta channel and that for now, will be limited to 20 users.

I agree. I hope there will be an option to raise that limit.

Reading the script from Roku seems they will be sticking to the 20 users, and allowing up to 10 channels for testing, not the best way to beta test en mass! I think they haven’t thought this through thoroughly?
I can see how they want to stop the Porn channels, but there has to be another solution? Especially for companies like Plex etc, that have lots of users willing to test etc on Roku like myself and members of my family.

I hope Plex and other companies that rely on more than 20 users can get through to Roku and get some form of deal?

Lets see what November brings!!

I don’t quite understand this new wall garden if there wasn’t the consideration for those developers who legitimately needed more beta slots. If Roku wanted to gate keep their platform, why not just come up with an developer application process which companies can apply for a tier based on their beta testing needs of slots/ beta users needed. A token of registration has to be updated periodically based on review or something. Seriously, how could Roku not have considered the back lash. Didn’t they not see the repercussions of other walled gardens like GPlay and Apple App stores? The legit developers should have been thought of. Roku already has a bad reputation on forum boards of passing the blame to devs of these apps when customers complain of the apps being broken and hindering the experience. This new limitation is ridiculous.
