Since the update that affected the playback to Google ChromeCast devices (They dropped mp4 apparently), it seems Plex’s default stream is now set to Transcode instead of Original Playback even if its supported by that device (MPEG4, H264, ect).
I run the Plex Server on a low-power NAS Qnap TS-1263U-RP so transcoding in not an option and bought 5 Google ChromeCast Ultra for my TVs thought my house. It worked well until the news that ChromeCast stopped supporting mp4.
However today i found out that Chromecast Ultra has no problem DirectSteam/Play from any type of MP4 container if i select “Play Original Quality” under the playback quality option.
I’ve spent my Sunday building a small 4Core (8 HT thread) 32GB Server out of spare parts to run a new Plex server with NFS mounts only to discover this.
So question is how can i force Plex to use “Play Original” without having to constantly select it from the quality option?
I have family members that won’t know how to do this even if i keep showing them.
