Plex, PS4 Pro and 4k/hdr

With the PS4 Pro about to be on sale, I’m wondering if Plex will be able to support 4k output (and HDR at some point) or things like h.265 direct play. And also whether the more powerful PS4 Pro will mean a better performing Plex.

That would be perfect for the new release! Hopefully the do support it, and soon!

Dev already said not to expect HEVC in Plex. They don’t have access to all codecs the ps4 itself supports because of how Sony built their framework, and I think (not sure) be even said they just don’t use/include HEVC.

Awe man, that sucks. This would have been an amazing addition to plex!

But…If Netflix can stream 4K/HDR on PS4 (Not sure if it can or not–Don’t have a 4K tv to test it on…) , then there would theoretically be a way for Plex to do it as well…I would think anyways.

On some platforms, including the Ps4, Netflix gets deals that other apps don’t get. For example, Netflix on ps4 supports dd+ while plex can’t use it.

Other example, the dlna player can read mkv, but not plex. And that’s by Sony’s design…

That I did not know, thanks for the info @KarlDag! Still, that sucks that Sony does that and restricts other apps from using the full functionality of the PS4 environment. I love my PlayStation but I would love implementing many features like this for plex and then backward compatibility for games!
