Plex Remote Acces

Why can’t some old TVs access SSL from my custom domain? On those TVs, it only works without HTTPS, or I have to enable “allow insecure connections” in the settings for it to work. I read somewhere that old apps on these TVs can’t use custom SSL certificates unless they’re from Plex. Is that true? Thank you for your help!

Old devices might not be able to handle today’s certificates and encryption. There’s been some big hiccup 1-2 years ago, when modern platforms stopped supporting the ancient and mostly obsolete / insecure encryption still used by those older devices.

If you don’t want to dump the TV because the screen is still good / power consumption isn’t killing you, you could consider attaching a more recent streaming device (e.g. Apple TV, Roku Stick, some FireOS / Android TV box…).

I read that custom certificates and those from plex.direct are not the same. Some older devices that support SSL only accept certificates issued by Plex and won’t accept custom domains, proxies, or Cloudflare proxies.
