Server Version 1.20.1.3252
I have just one issue with Plex Server and that’s the way it renames certain music albums!
I have a lot of music albums by artists who have the name starting with “THE” like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones etc, If I set iPlex to ALBUMS. ARTIST NAMES then The Beatles is stored alphabetically as Beatles NOT The Beatles and that’s totally incorrect. The official name of the band is THE BEATLES not BEATLES and same same with THE ROLLING STONES not ROLLING STONES. Is Plex too dumb to realize this or is this the idea of the programmers? I have my albums stored on Itunes and on other servers and this is the first time I have been dumfounded by such a thing. Please let the users have some decision in how we would like to view our media.
My Two Cents Worth.
You can have change from your two cents.
Many people prefer to remove articles from titles when sorting. You can control Plex’s behavior with a setting. See ArticleStrings.
How is this supposed to help me! I’m a Lover not a Fighter. I have no knowledge of the workings of Registry and no need to screw it up. There should be an easier way for us Noobs to do this without fear of Killing the machine.
A very gentle question: Are you sure you’re a lover? In your first message you implied Plex and the programmers are dumb.
I also think it’s weird that nouns are sorted this way, but I don’t blame Plex for following conventions. I just verified that both Spotify and Apple Music sort “The Beatles” and “The Cranberries” alphabetically as “Beatles” and “Cranberries”.
I encourage you to believe in yourself. Adding a single key to the registry isn’t scary or particularly dangerous.
I haven’t watched this one, but I see quite a few “how to” videos:
You could also create a Feature Suggestion in that section of the forums.
Firstly I didn’t imply that the programmers are dumb just that Plex might be dumb and that the idea of naming might be a programmers idea of how it should name the the albums, but all things aside I might just create a Feature Suggestion as I don’t feel I understand the registry enough to add to it and I wouldn’t even know what to add to give me the feature. So thanks for the advise and maybe one day I’ll try it but for now I will keep a watching for any news regarding the issue.
Thanks Volt
I just checked the registry and there is no Plex anywhere in it and that’s probably because the server lives in my Western Digital My Cloud EX2 Ultra server which makes it doubly difficult to add the Feature I require.
Cheers
On the one hand, that means there’s no registry to worry about …
On a My Cloud the configuration would follow the Linux example on that page, but I don’t have a My Cloud and can’t tell you how to access the Settings.xml for one.
I’m optimistic somebody else on the forum can suggest how to do so. You might want to relabel this topic thread for that NAS instead of server-windows.
