Coming back to Plex since a lot time I noticed that there are now separate apps for Music, Photos, etc. and that those Libraries are not supported in the main Plex.app anymore.
Also I noticed (read) that these apps, even tough they are still early stage, are not getting a lot of love. Not from the users, apparently also not from the developers.
So my question is: What is the roadmap for Plex as a multi-media platform. Is Plex only going to focus on video streaming and their own TV and movie channels? Or does the lack of love for the music and photos apps mean that they are coming back into Plex?
Is Plex subject to “enshittification” like almost every successful service out there? (Disclaimer: I partly put this question here to provoke engagement)
Plexamp is not suffering from attention deficiency. Concentration on one aspect (i.e. audio) helped it to surpass the old app’s music features. It’s also not new, but has been in development for years already.
Please try it out in earnest before criticising it.
As for the photos app: yes it is still very basic. But usable.
Music and photos will get back into the standard apps. It just will take some time to re-develop those features in there.
You are right, I don’t use the music app (tinnitus, can’t stand music). I am using the Photos app.
When you say this feature will eventually get back into the main app, does that mean it doesn’t make sense to submit enhancement requests? Or are we going to have the two functions in parallel in the main and in the Photos app?
The latter. So far, I have no information to the contrary.
It does make sense either way. Even if the suggestion won’t get implemented in the app for which it was originally made, it might spark an addition or change in the other app.
Ok, first and foremost, please create a seek function for videos in the Photos app. Whenever you touch the screen when watching a video you either get swiped to the next or previous video or photo or the video stops and you have to start over again. There are no means to skip to minute 10 in a video.
