Plex says my server is unreachable

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

I am frustrated beyond belief. I hope someone can help me.

I’ve been a PLEX user for about a year. I have an HDHomerun extend that I use with PLEX to get local channels and do the DVR. About 4 days ago, live streaming stopped working. I’ve been trying to figure that out.

Now, I’ve gotten myself into some serious problem while trying to troubleshoot. Now PLEX says it can’t find my server when I log in, that it’s unreachable. Plex will allow me to connect to another server (my son’s) but that’s because he has allowed my account to do that.

At this point when I log into PLEX, it just tells me my server is unreachable and it won’t go any further than that. I can’t view my recorded content (movies, etc), I don’t get a list of my libraries, and it won’t stream Live TV. It just sits there at the “Server unreachable” and I’m dead in the water.

When I try to read the support forums about “Can’t find my server”, I found an article written by a techie who is talking about SSL connections. I AM NOT a network person. I do understand PC’s and programming, but not the network stuff. This article was completely over my head and I got nothing out of it. It was not written to the non-exprt.

Can someone please help?! Have I destroyed my install and do I need to reinstall Plex on my system and start over?

I’ve just had a similar problem over the last couple of days- all of a sudden I get a ‘The server “NAS…” is unreachable. Make sure it’s running, double check your network, and try again.’ message.

I’ve had it before but then it’s started working again without any action on my part but not for as long as this. Did you manage to resolve this in the end? I didn’t want to start messing around with my whole set up if it was just a Plex issue again. The NAS seems to be working fine but Plex isn’t working on the various platforms I usuallly use (PS4, laptop, firestick etc).

My problems started with Plex not providing the Guide. That totally screwed up OTA broadcasts. Luckily, it was on their end, and in 3 days, they got it straightened out. Now Plex is back to normal.

Plex has now updated their TV Guide and it’s a LOT BETTER than it used to be. I’m really impressed with the system … have been for the year I’ve had it. Plex really provides a good solution for cutting the cable.

By the way, you mentioned you have NAS drives. I personally have USB drives attached directly to my media PC. In the beginning I thought about going with a NAS drive, but didn’t do it because of cost. Can you tell me the advantages of
a NAS drive compared to a USB? The obvious one is that the drive is visible by all PC’s on your network. With my setup, only my PC can see my drives. Are there other reasons?

Thanks

The Guide? Whats that?

I only really use it to watch personal media on my server. I am i the process up transferring my collection to my NAS so that I can watch on various devices, share with family rather than loan DVDs etc and am loving it. The main benefit for me with the NAS is the large storage size and ability to leave it running so my files are ready for access at any time on pretty much any device. Obviously its much easier then to find a particular movie than rummaging through loads of DVDs, If a USB’s capacity is fine for you and its only you using it, then you could back up to another source easily and may not really benefit from a NAS. I only use a tiny fraction of its potential to be honest- you can use it to automatically back up to another NAS, save files in a RAID arrangement to protect them if one drive fails, use it to manage downloads, there’s a karaoke function on mine that I’ve yet to try but could be a chuckle. I’m gradually adding my CDs to it too. I see there’s a function to use other add ons with plex to use it for comics etc so I may look to start adding those to it too if I can get it working properly! Again, I’d look to chuck those on the NAS too.
