Plex server build

I’m relatively new to plex, been using it for 3 years now but only on a prebuilt HP desktop that’s about 6 years old.

Im thinking about upgrading but want to make it as easy as possible, so my thoughs are buying the Intel Nuc Phantom canyon with these specs:

Intel Core i7-1165G7

16 gb DDR4 3200

512 gb NVME

Iris Xe Graphics including Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 w/ 6 GB GDDR6

I have a 1000/1000 mbit fiber speed and the remote users have 500/500
remote users are 3 with a total amount of 5 users both local and remote

My library is mostly 1080P H.264 but have a bit of 4K also

Would this be good for 5-6 years?

With that CPU there is no use for the extra RTX GPU. The Quicksync unit in the cpu can handle the video transcoding just as well.
Still, don’t expect more than one 4K transcoder stream with HDR to SDR tone mapping at once.

How many transcodes in HD to you think it can handle?

The trick is not how many but do as little transcodes as possible.

Easily your 5 users. Still, you want to avoid HDR unless most devices do support it.

(As long as you don’t select the audio track in “DTS-HD MA with Atmos” as your default audio track. Because transcoding this will take a toll on the CPU as well and cannot be accelerated with a hardware unit.)
