Plex Server inside FreeNAS Jail

I built a FreeNAS server and it has been running great. I can transfer anything to and from the NAS at 110Mbps which is the maximum for a gigabit network.

Specs
Dual Processor - Intel Xeon(R) CPU E5-2609 v2 @ 2.5GHz
128GB ECC RAM
Dual gigabit NICs
(6) 4TB Drives
FreeNAS: 11.1_U4

I installed the Plex Media Server plugin which runs in a FreeNAS jail. (ver: 1.12.3.4973)

I was running into buffering issues so I thought it was a transcoding issue. Well if I ping the server IP it will ping successful and then die, then successful then die. I don’t think it’s a transcoding issue now.. I think it’s a plex server issue.

I heard about issues running the server plugin through FreeNAS so I built a new jail running the standard jail instead of the plugin jail. Sure enough I could ping the server nonstop (PING 10.10.10.214 -t100) and each and every ping would return.

Then I manually installed Plex server on this new jail (ver: 1.13.2.5102) and as soon I installed Plex the the ping would be intermittent.

This server should do everything I need and more but for some reason I’m having a hard time with Plex.

I’ve exhausted every option I have and need some help. I bought a lifetime Plex Pass and it is becoming unusable.

Thanks
Brandon
