Plex server stops playing, service still running though

Server Version#:1.15.1.710
Player Version#:Web client, Roku 4

Since upgrading to 1.15.1.710 I’m getting the server as unavailable though the Plex service is still running. Scanner crashes are in the application log when this happens.

Here’s my logs : Plex Media (9.4 MB)
PlexAppLog.zip (105.7 KB)

Thanks for the logs. Initial investigation was to look for crashes as you posted this originally in Server crashing after latest update to 1.15.0 - Logs included - #210 by Peabo

I can see scanner crashes which we can follow up - but you are now describing a differentl issue / symptom and i will look into that aspect

I have been looking at the logs which cover period Mar 10, 2019 04:28:49 to 08:46:32

Can you tell me at what time is showed as unavailable and for what user

I do see some hangs on playback requests for some remote users that you shared your server with. These hangs were for users caberocks and admgoebel - first hang at 07:29am

Is it the access by these remote shared users that is showing server unavailable?

Since upgrading to the 1.15.x.xxx versions, the server will just exit for no apparent reason. It does this on all three of my machines. It will be fine for maybe a few hours or maybe a few minutes, then it will just exit for no reason… What ever was changed in 1.14.1.5488 to 1.15.0.659 is where the problems started.
If I try to jump back to version 1.14.1.5488 I’m told I can’t. I’m not going to delete all the work I put into building this server to jump back, that’s 30TB of media to rebuild … :frowning:

While writing this message I’ve had to reboot my one server 3 times and it was just sitting idol.

It would be nice if you would create a tool that I could run or “you” could run remotely that would collect the information you needed to see for diagnostics, it would then pack it up and send it home to you.

I want to help get this corrected and back working properly…so we can break it again…er, I mean, skip that last part…

Please ensure debug logging is enabled on the server
See
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

Restart the server to get fresh logs created
On next crash - get the logs zip after restarting
See
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

And if you are on windows and since some of these crashes are not being intercepted by the Plex Media Server crash reporting, please also export the Windows Application Event Log using Eventvwr.exe and filtering for Event Ids 1000,1001 and save as evtx file and zip and attach together with the logs zip

Both local and remote report server unavailable when it happens

Thank you for the additional logs and event log export. There appears to be some form of deadlock that is affecting transcoded playback.

As this is repeatable - and seen in your logs twice so far, would like some specific diagnostics on the next occurrence

First prepare by finding out the server security token as you will need it for specific browser requests to make when the problen is encounterd again. See this support article for finding out the security token https://support.plex.tv/articles/204059436-finding-an-authentication-token-x-plex-token/

Note the token down and you will need to enter as the X-Plex-Token value when we come to getting the diagnostics

When you notice the problem again, get the list of connections to the server. In a browser, enter the following url
http://192.168.1.8:32400/connections?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxx
or
http://192.168.1.137:32400/connections?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxx
where xxxxxxxxx is the security token for the server

copy the displayed result to a text file and note down the time and save the text file

Wait a minute and confirm that you are unable to connect the server through Plex Web (http://localhost:32400/web)

Then repeat the /connections request and note down the time and save the displayed output into a second file

Then we need to get a process dump
Open windows 32-but task manager from
c:\windows\syswow64\taskmgr.exe
Use right click Run As Adminstrator
Locate the Plex Media Server.exe process and select create dump

Copy out the Logs directory c:\PlexCache\Plex Media Server\Logs and zip the copy

Upload zip of the dmp file and the 2 /connections outputs files and the zipped logs to dropbox or similar service and send me a link by private message

thank you

Of course, the server has been available all day so far. I did remove the music library and stop the automatic scanning. I’ll try to get it to act up again

There is now a new beta 1.15.1.780 which has the fix in 1.15.1.777 plus a couple of other fixes. But nothing added to address deadlocks

Ran a manual scan of TV shows and the issue came up again. Got the files as requestedLogs.zip (20.3 MB)
Plex Troubleshooting.zip (2.1 KB)
