Currently I’m running a Win10 Plex Server on the following Hardware:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4590
no GPU
Around 15 TB Storage
150GB SSD
Especially on watching LIVE TV (HD Homerun) sometimes the PLEX server keeps buffering. Also if more than 2 Streams at a time (1080P H264) are running, it keeps buffering.
Now Im looking for an upgrade. My goal is to stream easily 4 1080P H264 Streams + Live TV. But I do not want to increase the power bill much.
Will it be a good idea to add a Graphics Card? Which one would you suggest for my needs? Or would you prefer to start a new server?
In your scenario what’s going to matter most (or is most important to figure out first) are (1) what are the video encodes for your files and (2) what clients are you using for playback?
When (1) can be played back natively by 2) less work is needed by the server. Live TV in particular (depending on your set up) can be CPU intensive.
Hey!
sorry, forgot to mention. All mentioned streams have to be transcoded. Playback devices are really different. Samsung TV, Fire TV Stick, Apple TV,…
