Just upgraded to Version 1.18.1.1966 and now when anyone, myself included, attempts to play media the server crashes. Any suggestions? I have restarted the server several times with no change.
Betas are for testing. When reporting issues, it’s very helpful to post the full PMS logs (via Settings / Server / Troubleshooting).

Thanks. First time poster (first ever issue) so I was unaware.
Thanks for the logs. The crash reports did not manage to get uploaded. Could you please look in this directory for dmp files and get me the dmp files in a zip (sent by Private Message) - also get me a directory listing so I can see the date and time when each dmp file was created and then match them to the logs
The path to look at is here
F:\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.18.1.1966-10fc2f8d3\PLEX MEDIA SERVER
Thanks

Please let me know if you need anything esle.
Thank you. I have analyzed the crash dumps and passed to the development team. The crashes were due to heap corruption. Not easy type of crash to troubleshoot.
could you tell me what version you upgraded from ? - which version the crashes started in
Not 100% certain. I usually update every time it asks me to so whatever the version was before 1966. I don’t skip versions. Going off the Crash Report folders it would have been 1944. The issue didn’t start until I applied the 1966 patch. The previous patch worked fine for me.
It seems to be related to hardware encoding. again. I was having the same problem, disabled hardware encoding, works. Rolled back to 1944, re-enabled HW encoding. Works.

My server is a i5-4570 (with iGPU) paired with a Quadro K600.
Windows 10 1903 (18362.418).
Note sure what changed but it seems to be working now…
Scratch that. Worked for a bit then crashed again
A few more details if it helps:
CPU: Intel i5 3570k (internal GPU enabled)
GPU: nvidia GTX 970, tested 418 driver along with latest 436.48
With hardware acceleration enabled I see the following lines in the “Console”, as the server crashes:
PubSub: Received notifyConnectivity event with incorrect async identifier (ea34c6e7-86bc-43aa-a716-b79a938ce7bb, expected 48791fe6-05c0-43e9-b964-dfbf62a4a20e)
[FFMPEG] - Error setting child device handle: -16
Same file(s) plays fine with hardware accel disabled.
That is the common error in all these crashes
For the ones I looked at, it was
[FFMPEG] - Error setting child device handle: -6
I’m having the exact same issue. Hopefully someone can look at my logs and post on here as well. And pass the information on
I applied the 1973 patch that was available this morning but still have the same issue where the server crashes after a while when people are playing media.
1966, 1973 have issues for me 1944 works
I can confirm that turning off “Use hardware acceleration when available” allows the server to run and people to play media without issues. At least it has worked all day that way now.
v1966 is still working for me on Win10. v1973 broke everything and wiped out the CODECS folder, and left me with a bunch of HTTP 429 errors when the server was attempting to download new/updated codecs. After farting around with it for about 30 minutes, I just uninstalled it, and reinstalled v1966 & did a restore of the CODECS directory from the day prior. Everything is back up and running. Something is definitely wrong w/ v1973, but no issues here w/ v1966.
i get the [FFMPEG] - Error setting child device handle: -16 error on 1966.
i wonder how the gpu is being chosen. in my system GPU0 is my intel HD4600 and GPU1 is the Quadro k600.
Same problem with 1966 and 1973 while using hardware acceleration along with a P2000. Going back to 1944 fixed it for me as well.
Dido. HW Transcoder was crashing mine as well.
