Have either been addressed in 1.18.2.2029?
No, but it looks like the problem is that PMS now includes the iHD VAAPI Driver from the Intel Media SDK on Linux and it doesnāt seem to work with Gemini Lake yet (at least not in the version they are shipping).
In theory adding a systemd unit override to set the LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=i965 should work to make Plex Transcoder use the old i965 driver, but in practice this doesnāt work.
What worked for me on 1.18.2.2041 was to rename the iHD driver:
mv /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.{so,bak}
systemctl restart plexmediaserver
After that hardware transcoding works again and is using the i965 driver.
Iāll be damned, disabling the iGPU in bios/device manager indeed restores HW Transcoding.
However, this is just a workaround. Letās say I didnāt want to disable my intel HD4600, and instead run both the iGPU and my dGPU (Quadro K600).
Why all the sudden did this start happening with 1.8.X.XXXX builds?
If you want the fix to work across updates on Debian or Ubuntu you can add a diversion:
dpkg-divert --local --add --rename --divert /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.{bak,so}
You can undo the change with:
dpkg-divert --local --remove --rename --divert /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.{bak,so}

To help identify the cause of the crashes that came in between versions 1.18.0.1944-f2cae8d6b
and 1.18.1.1966-10fc2f8d3 , I am producing server development builds to be tried out. I will send you links by Private Message.
If you have disabled the graphics card, please re-enable and confirm the crashes are still occurring and then install the versions I will send you. Note that if the version number is lower than what is installed, you would need to do an uninstall first through Add or Remove programs
I am making the builds available to users that I have seen evidence from and I confirmed the issue

Hello sa2000, This is a copy of my reply to you on a similar thread
Thank you for your reply. Also thanks for linking me the current best practice for collecting Log Files.
I have Updated both my PS, PP and replicated many of the shutdown conditions and Error messages.

Your problem is being investigated. It manifests itself with a log entry like this before crashing
Nov 22, 2019 05:07:55.748 [15216] ERROR - [FFMPEG] - Error setting child device handle: -16
It is the crash I am working on this with a number of users - see post above yours here Plex Server Version 1.18.1.1966 - #46 by sa2000
Much obliged for all your behind the scenes work and effort.
Have a Good weekend.
Bush Baby.
Not sure where to go for help, but have two servers that continue to crash or shutdown for unknown reasons. Attached are diagnostics, THANKStower6tb-diagnostics-20191124-1620.zip (69.7 KB) tower24tb-diagnostics-20191124-1618.zip (103.5 KB)
Is it the system that is crashing or the Plex Media Server process that is crashing?
If it is the Plex Media Server process that is crashing, then I would be happy to look into it, if you provide the logs zip obtained from Plex Media Server after restart following a crash of the Plex Media Server process
Debug logging needs to be in place beforehand and before the server launch

When posting your logs, I suggest starting a new forum topic with different tags as this one is about Plex Media Server crashing on Windows and is not unraid or NAS related
