Plex should support the MPEG broadcast format video codex in all clients for the LiveTV+DVR feature

I get that Plex streamlines everything by transcoding – but the TS media broadcast version files from HRHomerun almost certainly require transcoding which can be brutal on some systems. Net result – the Live TV feature always struggles when the HDHomerun software never even brakes a sweat – they just deliver source or original TS files and and the client uses the codex, done. Whereas Plex drops out, and becomes unusable.

So by all means, Plex, transcode away I get the utility – but the Live TV feature should use the source media if possible with the mpeg or proper codex rolled out.

.TS recordings from my HDHomerun direct play to my Apple TV.

What player are you using?

Tells me you are transcoding while recording (or after) have selected the transcode option in Plex DRV device settings, or using HDHomeRun Extended with similar option – Apple supports H.264 not MPEG2, So Plex will transcode the MPEG2.signal for Apple devices.

Plex status will show MPEG2VIDEO along with transcode to H264 etc etc since broadcast signals are not H.264

Most other vendors HDHomerun client, Amazon FireTV include MPEG2 video codex, so aside from the data volume, that’s direct, with no CPU transcoding at any stage, it just works instead of relying on somewhat heavy CPU hit, instability with the conversion, bugs, more complicated and brittle process. So Plex could boost performance and stability by implementing the most common video broadcast format for Apple clients

No, I have not selected the Transcode option in Plex and I have a Connect.

But it is a DVB-T/T2 tuner (I am in the UK) which might the reason? …where are you?
