Plex, show your customers some respect

Well it is official, sort-of. MSFT is slowly putting the Windows 10 Mobile out to pasture. Windows Phone 8.1 is officially EoL where Windows 10 Mobile is only getting fixes and security updates through the RS2_Release branch until around the end of 2018. There will be no RS3 or RS4 for Windows Mobile, ever. However, there will be some API backporting, but that might buy your another year or two at best. Andromeda_OS with CSHell is now their main focus. It is the Windows on ARM. Devices running this OS will send a very large spike in the mobile market. Andromeda_OS with CSHell will technically run on just about anything, literally and battery life is said to be in the weeks, not hours or days.

MSFT is also turning toward the white space in the terrestrial space. The FCC has over the years been holding on to the channels that broadcaster use who either do not renew their FCC license or fails to meet requirements. This is now has become unlicensed terrestrial bands. In other words free for all to use. MSFT plans to use this for enhanced longer range WiFi. I mean like 100 - 300 miles. Eat that Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile! You data plans are going to be worthless!

In any event the next device may not be the mobile phone that we are use to seeing. At best it might be a modular device that can either expand to a larger device or add-ons like a LED projector, SLR lens, diagnostic tools, speakers, laser tape measure etc. There is even talks about a new version of the HoloLens (version 3) that I will have AI built in and will twice as small as the current version.

For Plex, the least I would expect would be bug fixes to the current build for the next year or two.

@NVader2000 While your comments about Windows 10 Mobile are true regarding Microsoft’s plans, this is a UWP app, so it runs on Windows 10 desktop, Surface, etc. The same problems that appear on mobile also appear on those platforms. It is the only way to sync content on those platforms.

I’m now wondering if I should just seek an alternative, such as Emby, despite having a lifetime pass for Plex.

You would think Plex staff would address these concerns, but they don’t seem interested.

I am become less and less dependent on Plex. I had to many issues and there far better ways for me to handle my media. Granted that Plex pulls everything into a single pane of glass but when it is buggy at best it is just not worth the aggravation. My phone can automatically upload photos and videos to my OneDrive (1tb) and does everything plex does with pictures. Music is now coming from Spotify. I was able to find all of my music there and the quality is just as good if not better than Plex. I can also download the music from Spotify for offline playback.

In the end I only see Plex useful for playing movies and only until NetFlix and other streaming services bump up the throughput to handle true 4K. I have a 1Gb circuit from Version over FiOS and I can find just about every movie I want online in their original format unaltered. It is better to seek out best-in-breed products over the All-in-One and I am learning this about Plex through my experience in the Sys Admin world. I guess I was being to hopeful.

My Synology DS3615xs will eventually be brought offline once online streaming has worked itself out at which point I will repurpose the unit for work related stuff.

It has been a fun ride and I did learn a lot that finally took me into a better direction. I feel less stressed with my newly found options. I should hand it to Plex for keeping as long as they did as I can be short fused and do not like to deal with things that add stress to my life.

You will find out that neither Netflix nor Spotify will have every content in the future. Netflix sometimes takes ages to see certain movies of they add them at all. It don’t know if this is the same in your country, but that was my observation here in Germany. If you are just looking for something to entertain you, but nothing specific, Netflix might be a good choice. If you have your favourite TV shows or certain movies you want to see, this can be quite annoying.

theres a simple solution then . instead of creating a huge hissy fit just dont use it or spend the money. stop acting immature and grow up complaining wont change anything you can say things here and there but no company is perfect and no issue has a fix that makes everyone happy. so use it or dont simple

I love how there is always one clown whose answer to a poorly supported product is to just not use it. You should be a CEO. At this point forget the money. You know how much time many of us have into these setups?

mocking me or plex’s services still doesnt change my point you pay for this without realizing how plex works there not obligated to provide your every need you pay for access to certain features that non paid users dont get so like it or not your groaning about not getting what you want within 3 months of so is nothing but childish your acting like a little kid who has a friend who got a bigger handmade lollipop then you when in reality handmade lollipops are very hard to make them exactly the same size

The “mocking” was started by you when you referred to my complaint as a “hissy fit”. And I did realize how plex works before I paid for it. At one point none of these issues existed, they have come with updates. So like it or not, your whole “hissy fit” about our complaint is simple you acting like a child that is mad the other kid has a lollipop.

Ladies and gentlemen
the world’s longest run-on sentence.

So what do you guys think they’re going to do?
Do you think they’re going to announce they’re dropping UWP and focusing on PMP?
I’d be pretty screwed if they did that, as I’m a WP user. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve moved away from WP (sadly enough) but I use the UWP app extensively on my Surfaces so I need a good touch client and sync.

I’ve thought about leaving WP, but I really don’t like Android and I’m not paying Apple prices.
But I suppose that’s the problem with a two horse race; you’re screwed if you don’t like either.

Yup I’m in the same boat, can’t stand Android, don’t want to pay Apple prices so i am begrudgingly using a OnePlus 3 which isn’t too bad. With Arrow launcher and outlook it’s bearable.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the OnePlus devices, but my 950XL is still fully functional and is still on contract so hopefully Microsoft release their new shiny mega device before the contract expires.
Otherwise I’ll either have to go sim only, or find another platform.

Yep. Hard to leave UWP when so many Surface and other laptop/tablet devices rely so heavily on it. It seems like Plex thinks only WP users are affected by them ignoring this app. So not true.

there’s plenty of work going on related to the Windows client and we’ve certainly not abandoned the platform, but we don’t have any specific information to share currently sorry.

Are we still pretending this app have been an abandoned? If not, please explain to us what really is going on with this mess.

I think adequate time has passed that we can file for divorce from the app for abandonment. And I’m filing for alimony. :’(

4 months without any updates or information, isn’t it great being a Windows user. :stuck_out_tongue:

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Although, any evidence would be welcomed in this case.

hooo—hummmmm

I will now post in every thread that the people should not bother requesting feedback because development has stopped for the app.

Maybe I get an answer this way.

I approve this action. This whole thing has gotten ridiculous.
