Plex simply doesn't like some valid mp3 files?

For years I’ve had issues like this with podcasts in Plex, but usually I’m able to find some annoying workaround. I cannot figure out how to fix this one, though. Last week some of my podcasts suddenly stopped playing while others still function normally. I have tried resetting the player’s cache, deleting and reinstalling the app on my phone, removing and re-adding the affected podcasts, all to no avail. I can play the broken podcasts via the web player without any problems.

Attached is what looks to be the relevant debug output from the player when I try to play an episode affected by this issue.

For whatever dumb reason I hadn’t yet tried playing the problematic podcasts in a web browser. I tried today and found that playback fails identically through the browser client.

Ok, so I’ve tried downloading this mp3:

I create a new library with just this and another mp3 in the directory. Plex indexes the other one but not this one. Plex doesn’t like the mp3s on this soundcloud stream, but it didn’t have any issues playing them back a couple of months ago.

What the hell is wrong here? I’ve validated the mp3 and there’s nothing wrong with it.
