Plex source code and patching

Hello

If necessary I may have to patch the Plex source code to do what I need to do.
Are patches accepted?

I want to be able to create libraries for Audiobooks & Radio Dramas/Plays.

I really would like to use Plex to serve up an iTunes Library with minimal modification of the media files. I may have to write code to do that.

Are you stating you might be interested in submitting code for the devs to review and possibly integrate for the sole purpose you state here ? (just so we’re clear)

Hello

I am asking if patches may be submitted . What happens to them or whether ther are considered or not is not my concern. I would assume that if patches may be submitted that there are coding standards that should be followed.

I want no part in the politics of the Plex organization.

That’s totally cool then… I have no part in those decisions either. If you have a great contribution, I’m sure they’ll gladly welcome it. There is always so much to do

So that all said, Yes, Send it via the web site (contact them)… and they’ll take it from here (direct channel to engineering)

How will you write patches when you don’t have access to the original source code?

Hello

Plex is a fork of xmbc which is now named Kodi.
The source code is licensed under the GPL version 2.0

The Plex source code is here

So you have patches to the Kodi code?

Hello

I have not used Kodi or looked at the Kodi source code since the numerous law suits have been filed against various Kodi dealers of Kodi set top boxes.

I do not need nor want that type of hassle. I also do not need that “drama”.

I will start with Plex. If unable to access the current Plex source code I will just have to continue on using multiple iTunes library across multiple machines.

Im pretty sure the plex media server isnt opensource, some of the clients might be though.

Plex Media Server is not open sources o you cannot provide patches. Plex Media Server is also not a fork of XBMC. The original media player, Plex Media Center and Plex Home Theaters, were based on the XMBC code, but that has been discontinued starting with Plex Media Player.

It sounds like you want to create a custom scanner and/or agent to read your media files. This is allowed. You can see examples of other scanners and agents and ask for help in our developer section, http://forums.plex.tv/categories/scanners-and-agents.
