Started following this thread because I am seeing Plex server on Synology NAS appearing to have stopped running. According to tautallli, the server stopped responding around midnight. There were no remote or local users active.
It seems like something is triggering the crash reporting, but there were no files in those folders locally, I just see stuff in the crash reporting logs.
Let me know if there’s anything else you’d need to help with this one. Plex is stopping at least daily.
Same here. Plex frequently stops running on my Synology DS220+. In my case it always happens when the new sonic analysis feature has finished scanning its queue after adding new content. (Facing this problem since Plex 1.24.2.4973-2b1b51db9, running the recent DSM version.)
I am also seeing this behavior on my Synology DS918+ (DSM 7)

I have a remote user in my Plex Home who regularly streams using Plex on her LG TV, and a crash tends to happen when something is viewed from that device. Not every time, but I have to go Run/Restart the PMS package on the Synology about once a week because of a crash. This behavior started about a month ago.
After updating my PMS on my synology DS420J NAS a few weeks ago, I don’t recall to which specific server version, but as of today I am on 1.24.3.5033), i’ve also started to see behaviour very similar to what is being described in this thread.

As if playback is trying to start, even though absolutely nobody is using the server. I have nobody that connects to my server remotely, and I’ve confirmed there are no clients even logged in that are outside of my home, and i’m the only one here, definitely not trying to start playback when this happened. My main client is also an nvidia shield which is a common factor perhaps?
The logs just before the server crashed most recently (I’ve only started properly looking into this today) show the following:

The thing that strikes me there (besides the rogue phantom playback, i can absolutely guarantee nobody was trying to start playback at 19:53), is perhaps the requests being made by the shield (which is 192.168.0.188) for data on Continue Watching. I’ve since removed that from the home page of my Shield, just to see if that makes a difference if that is perhaps the culprit, I never use it anyway.
I take it full PMS logs as downloaded in the zip from the web interface don’t contain any sensitive info if i need to upload that in full?
Edit: A second crash this morning at 08:25 while i was asleep. Logs right before the crash look almost identical

I’m having the same issue. Plex server on my Synology DS2415+ NAS has been crashing over the last ~two weeks.
When I start the Plex app in the Synology Control Panel, it seems to run fine for 2-5 minutes, then it crashes and I can no longer get to my content.

Same for me, DSM 6 - Plex crashing, randomly - random behaviour while playing back files (or failing to more to the point) on Android TV/Shield Tv/any other Android device.
Back to Kodi, works every time therefore (I like to think) ruling out any issue with my 1821+
Not to mention ALL the MANY posts about similar behaviour…

When I look at my file layout, what I see is EXACTLY what you show in your screenshot. All of my media files are under the Library folder. All I have is the “Library” folder, the “tmp_transcoding” folder, and the warnings in six different languages.
I followed your instructions. I created a new Media folder, created Movies, TV Shows and Home Videos underneath. I set the Plex user permissions. I moved the media files there. The original folders are now empty. I started the Plex, told it to scan, it showed the red trash cans on all the posters for a second, then it crashed again. Same as before.
Not sure where to go after this?
Update: After moving the files to a new Media folder, the Plex server still crashed when I scanned the Library.
Once I removed the old Library folders however, it now seems stable. I didn’t take it far enough before panicking.

Having similar issues myself; I’m also on DSM 7 on a DS1821+ (32 gb ram). I migrated from my old DS1815+ (16gb ram) and then migrated from DSM 6 to 7 after that, but have been running Plex on it for several years.
Been having the occasional stoppage since I was on the 1815+ on at least v 1.18 or older, but it definitely doesn’t occur as often on the 1821+. Just wanted to add that I’ve had some luck so far with an auto-restart script to use in the meantime that can at least restart the package if it’s been off; not a fix, but makes it less of a hassle → https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/op7smc/plex_package_autorestart_script/

I’m starting to see it more and more; enough that it’s not an isolated case.
I’m letting you know that I’m digging into it to figure out WHY it’s happening to so many folks and how to get it fixed.
If you have an older version (1.24.2.4973 or higher) you can uninstall and downgrade to it for the sake of testing.
It will help confirm where the problem is coming from
