DSM7 Plex Media Server keeps crashing

Hi,

I noticed since upgrading to DSM7 and PMS 1.23 that PMS keeps crashing several times a day. I notice that my videos are inaccessible, go to DSM and find out PMS stopped running - have to “start” it again.

I’m trying to find out anything useful I can provide to support so that they can look into this and hopefully find the issue / fix. Could use some guidance on what I should do.

  • Q) Should I enable Debug logging? Verbose logging? Or both ?

I managed to find the new log path, but couldn’t find anything useful other than the below (this is without any debug/verbose enabled). I’m happy to enable what you need and gather logs for when it crashes again.

Oh nice! Thanks, didn’t notice 1.24.0.4921-ce9f9dc95 just came out… PMS said I was up to date. I’ll get that installed now and enable debug logging if it happens again.

Regarding the crash logs, so you wouldn’t need me to do anything if/when it crashes again right? The engineers would automatically have a copy of what they need and can work on it ?

Thanks! Just one final question …

Would you think the engineers need me to have debug enabled so if/when it crashes again, they would have more data uploaded? Or are said logs not uploaded at all hence irrelevant (and I can just have debug disabled saving on resources)?

Edit - yea it seems it’s still crashing.

I think it may have to do with a sync it’s trying to do to my iPhone. It seems to be stuck syncing all the time even when it “finished”, then you restart the player and/or PMS after it crashes and it syncs again and again.

I stopped the syncs for now.

I’m not sure if the iPhone also running out of space is contributing to the trigger.

I hope tgz is ok.

I noticed a new Downloads feature replacing Sync, so I switched to that, but I’m happy to switch back and reproduce the issue if you need me to.

Sorry for the confusion.

The server crashes when using Sync, and it seems specific to 1 of 2 shows I have.

I just today discovered Downloads which is a replacement of Sync, so I just switched to it instead. Hasn’t crashed yet!

And yes thanks, was meaning to find an easy way to detect those encoded/damaged files, will go through the Plex Media Scanner Analysis logs and fix them.
