quick but maybe not easy question. As you see I am using PLEX via Apple TV 4k and stream or rather direct play a 4k file on 1080p TV (Samsung tv, not 4k) and it is direct playing also the DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio.
Now, this shouldn’t be possible, right? I mean apple tv can’t direct play DTS HD MA, it should be converted?? And what about my old 1080p TV? should 4k not be converted to 1080p too??
Bit confused why that’s being shown to me.

The AppleTV scales 4K video to 1080p. Pretty sure it is also decoding the dts audio to PCM before passing it to your TV. PMS reports Direct Play because it is direct playing the media. PMS is unaware of the scaling/decoding happening on the AppleTV.

Yes, but what about the dts track? That should be transcodes? I don’t think it should be direct play.
