I do not want it to transcode. I want it to direct play. The Roku is capable of doing that to the best of my knowledge. Transcoding 4k seems like something that should generally not be bothered with based on the conventional wisdom on this forum. When selecting the media to play back I’m deliberately telling it to not transcode (69.3 Mbps 4K Original). My other server does not appear to be attempting to transcode as it’s an even weaker CPU (it’s an AMD Athlon 5150 with a Passmark score of 1384), but playback on the Roku is smooth as glass.
I’m inclined to believe it’s some network setting I have on the Synology or the Plex package running there that is different from my current Plex server. And that setting is incompatible (for some reason) with the Roku. Something that doesn’t affect Plex for Windows, Plex Media Center or Plex Web.
But goodness if I can find any differences other than those mentioned.
