I have these video files on my NAS that include lossless audio like DolbyTrueHD and DTS Master Audio.
Can I set Plex up so that it will play these lossless audio formats to my surround receiver and LG smart TV?
I tried a few of the files just now and neither was playing as lossless. Only Dolby Digital or DTS was used. If it is at all possible, I assume I have to change something in the Plex settings?
I think this is a limitation in the HDMIA ARC (audio return channel) that is used to get audio from your TV to your receiver when you use the TV plex app. Nothing plex can do about that. The only chance if if your plex app is on a high end player that can transfer lossless audio and video to your reciever, then your reciever transfers the video portion to your TV.
Yes. When I think about it you are absolutely correct. HDMI ARC will limit the audio to Dolby Digital Plus at best.
I tried to use my Play Station 3, since it is connected to the receiver, but it won’t play those files at all…
You mention a high end player that can transfer lossless audio. Do you have a suggestion to what such a player could be?
If not, why should I bother using Plex at all? I would rather use my PS3 and play a Blu Ray movie from it. That way I keep the movies original soundtrack in lossless audio.
Nvidia Shield or a PC is where I would start. I just picked up an Amazon fire cube with the hopes it would but so far it’s been a terrible plex device.
