Plex: This server is not powerful enough to convert video

Have same issue
Xeon 5690 pass-mark 9066, and i have all so try on a i7 2700k overclocked to 4.8ghz pass-mark 11,000. i’m trying to play one move at 59.4mbps , mkv, 4k on 2gb lan teaming. have Dell manged switch with link-aggregation. will play fine with media player classic. but not on plex app or in chrome browser.

Any chance for an update on this Plex Support Peeps?

I wanted to provide an update that may help with your troubleshooting.

With my decision to move to direct play I purchased a NUC6i5SYH (i5-6260U CPU with 4377 Passmark) to use as a server. I’m running Windows 10 on the device.

The NUC is able to transcode video files to my web player and Android device that I previously had trouble with when running on my i7 7700/32GB RAM PC/Server. The only thing I can think of in the NUC’s favour is the network traffic wasn’t parsing through a Hyper-V virtual switch.

I’ve found plenty of examples of people using Hyper-V VMs for Plex servers therefore it isn’t just the virtual switch. My guess is the performance issue with the virtual switch became significant because the media is grabbed from my NAS, parsed through through the virtual switch, transcoded on the fly and parsed to the client again through the virtual switch.

This wouldn’t explain why I couldn’t transcode media stored directly on the server from my test library but i wanted to share in the hope that it would help your testing team find an answer.

Good luck and thanks for Plex
