Plex Transcode TrueHD with passthrough

My Setup: Synology NAS running Plex server. LG G1 OLED with WebOS running Plex media player connected via eARC to a Denon AVR-X1600H.

The LG is set to passthrough. I read somewhere on this forum that Plex will automatically passthrough audio (I don’t see any passthrough settings anyway) so I am wondering why plex needs to transcode any TrueHD content, which it always does. Shouldn’t it go directly to the Denon? The Denon shows “Dolby Audio - DD+ +DSur” but the Plex dashboard shows “EAC3 Transcode”

Just because a TV/device has a passthrough setting does not mean it can passthrough everything. Pretty sure the most it can passthrough it DD+ (dunno if this is your TV but TrueHD is not listed as a supported audio codec) https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-oled65g1pua-oled-4k-tv

TV based apps cannot passthrough lossless audio such as TrueHD or dts-HD, even when using HDMI-eARC. It is a TV manufacturer restriction. No known TV supports passthrough of lossless audio from TV based apps.

TVs do support passthrough from devices attached to their HDMI inputs (Blu-ray player, streaming box, etc.). However, not all audio codecs are supported by all TVs. RTINGS.com tests audio passthrough. You can check their review of your TV set to see which audio codecs it will pass via HDMI-eARC.
