Just updated my server (FreeNAS build) to version 1.11.1.4760. I had been having issues playing HVEC files, and this release boasted a fix. I was able then to watch two episodes of the show that was before giving problems, then the issue persisted again. Media playback will start for a couple seconds, then stop with error. It popped an error 4 times. I just tried again after writing what I just did, to note the specific language for the error, and it seems to be playing correctly. but, you will see later, it crashes again after a bit
Seems to be inconsistent, but I will update this post if more errors start occurring. Just documenting at this moment.
edit: for details, file being played was a 1080p mkv encoded at h265 10 bit 1282 kbps. audio AAC 5.1 187kbps.

just backed out of working playback and hit play again. crashed after a few seconds. Full error is “Playback was terminated by the server. Conversion failed, The Transcoder crashed or failed to start up”
other currently playing files being transcoding to other clients are unaffected
Edit, finished the episode I was on, transcoder crashed 4 minutes into next episode. Resuming playback so far is stable
Edit again: same episode crashed 9 minutes in
again edit, same episode crashed 16 minutes in, crashing on resume SIX times on resuming playback, in different spots, and errors on points already played correctly after seeking backward to replay. at this point I should probably mention that this exact same file will play through these same exact error points on two other devices no problem, one direct playing, one transcoding (nvidia sheild and web (chrome)) I gave up on the sixth crash this time.
I’m having similar results, only it also extends to ANY action that requires streaming a transcode. if I tell somethign to snc to my iPad plex converts it just fine and it downloads…
my aTV is useless right now. my iPads are a pain because it has to transcode first and download to play… untranscoded playing of original quality to the desktop app works fine but if I tell it to transcode then it fails the same way… very strange. also it was working the night before last…
my configuration is a freebsd 11.1 jail under freenas. plenty of fast storage space…
