I had 1.18.1.1973 set up on a windows server VM and was not pleased with the performance for obvious reasons. So i set up a new Plex server on physical hardware and decided to use Ubuntu sever as the OS. I have 2 HDHomeRuns configured for OTA. Everything works great except Live TV. Every time I tune into a channel (several roku boxes as well the plex android client) it transcodes. I can record a show and then play it back and it will do direct stream perfectly. It is only live tv that transcodes.
Now if I force direct play on the roku or the plex app it will play the video using direct stream perfectly. The issue is if I play something that needs to be transcoded it wont work for obvious reasons.
For troubleshooting I still have the old plex Windows VM so I put the roku client back to auto for direct stream. I pulled up the same channel on live tv (windows server) and direct stream works perfectly. So basically I have the same plex server version on both Linux (physical hardware) and Windows (virtual hardware), sever settings identical, client settings identical and direct stream works for live TV on WIndows but not Linux.
In the linux sever logs I attempted to tune to 3.1 ~ 21:34:00 - video was transcoded
In the non linux log I tuned to 3.1 ~21:38:00 and direct play worked great.
