Hi, just trying to figure out why plex server feels like it needs to transcode mpeg2 channels before sending them to my android device. The android device plays mpeg2 natively (shield tv 2017 and Samsung s7) and the HDhomerun app direct plays things, so why does Plex feel the need to transcode, I have direct play set up on the clients. This happens on other clients as well, such as PS4. The clients don’t correctly make use of all the native playback abilities of the platform (although the website appears to claim that’s what they should do) and so report to the server that direct play is unavailable.
I have this problem with an nVidia shield. It’ll play MPEG2 just fine, even with an AC-3 audio stream or three in the mix. Yet, the PMS insists on transcoding both audio and video. Kodi works without issue.
