Plex Transcoding

When I play this movie on the Plex app all i get is transcoding but! when I play on the xbox one media player it plays perfect!!!

Yes the settings on what xbox is able to play are way too conservative. You can edit the config files, I did it once years ago, long since forgotten. Many users have requested a total disable transcoding option for low cpu servers over the years, but Plex insists that it knows best and forces servers not capable of transcoding to do so and fail. Maybe there is a hack to do it?

that would be amazing! I just don’t understand why we can’t do it! We can have a advance user settings to do more with it!

Would probably need to see your logs to figure out what exactly is triggering the transcode. There is very few limitations imposed on h264 video formats so I am guessing it has to be the audio transcoding?

Since you’re using the generic profile for the Media Player the player should be pulling out the core audio track (And not actually playing the full truehd stream). My guess would be that the App is transcoding the audio to a supported format instead of just sending the full stream and having the xbox pull out the core audio. But your logs will confirm this for sure.

As for profiles, modifying app profiles has never controlled if the app will decide to transcode or not. That decision is controlled by the MDE on the app itself. Modifying a app profile will sometimes allow you to determine what format the server will transcode into (After the decision to transcode has been made). However, with DLNA profiles, you do get full control over these options both before and after the transcode decision (Which is what the Xbox Media Player uses if you install one).
