Plex Triggering video transcoding due to audio incompatibility

Hi,

Wondering if there’s a solution to this problem

TV: 1080p

Player: Shield TV Pro 2017

Video: 4K UHD (HEVC) with E-AC-3 audio

Plex server: PR4100 MyCloud

Connection: Shield to TV, HDMI

Native app settings for video: all of them are set to play original quality

Issue: When using the native Plex app and trying to play this video file, it forces a transcode (both audio AND video) because the audio format isnt supported by my TV. If I select an AC3 track (supported by my tv), the video plays without any transcoding.

If I play this same file through Kodi with Plex addon, it plays as it should. Kodi downsamples the audio (E-AC-3) to stereo, no video transcoding occurs, and we’re off to the races.

Subtitles on or off makes no difference, native Plex app keeps trying to force a transcode because of the audio codec.

Is there any way to stop plex from trying to transcode the video? It’s fine (and obviously required) to transcode the audio. It will play fine if put a receiver (that supports e-ac-3) inbetween the TV and Shield pro, so its very apparent that this is due to the audio codec, and nothing else.

I’m not a big fan of Plex for Kodi since the interface isnt as smooth as the native app. Any help/insights would be appreciated.

Alright, guess there isn’t a proper fix. Is there any way to submit bugs to the Plex dev’s in this case then?

This is the way… but seems they only pick some issues to respond to.
