Plex & TV Headend as a source DVR in 2024

I do have access to a TV Headend with hundreds of LiveTV channels, which defeats the purpose of dangling around my Plex Virtual server a number of USB TV sticks…
For that I am trying to use it as a source DVR in Plex by providing the address to it int the format: http://username:password@TVHFQDN:9981
The error that Plex is returning is “There was a problem adding the device”.

Any chance this is supported in Plex in 2024 as all other paid or free alternatives have this functionality?

Is there any up to date workarounds?

I’ve been using Plex & TVHeadend for several years. I have been using TVHProxy between them, I have not started using the TVH HDHomeRun emulation as I’m going to be losing this ability in the next year or so. TVHProxy might be an alternative if you can’t get this to work.

It seems the HDHomeRun emulation works, or at least half-way … I will not see any titles or logos in Plex although the links are corrent in the channels.xml …
Why do you say you are going to loose that ability next year?

I will look into TVHProxy, but I dont like the fact that I need to have anothe docker/vm that will run that, but most probably I will try it in the same VM as the Plex Server.

Guess I should have given a little more detail.

I’m actually tied into my ISP’s dedicated video network (that nearly nobody else knows about.) I’ve sniffed the network traffic for their set top boxes to extract the channel sources (IP Multicast) and build those into TVH. I am using the EPG from Plex for channel logos and scheduling. Unfortunately, my ISP is decommissioning their video network some time in the next year and going to completely application based TV delivery, which will stop me dead. I get why they’re doing this, they only have a few set top boxes in town now.

TVHProxy is a teeny tiny little Python script that just bridges PMS and TVH, shoot, reading the source may give you enough info to figure out your issue.

Something else… I don’t know that PMS will pull an EPG through a tuner connection. That comes either directly through Plex.tv or from an XMLTV file that you would need to either construct or acquire.
