I have a PLEX Media Server (PMS) running on an RPI4 4GB model and was attached to an RPI4 that was configured manually as a NAS. The old RPI finally stopped working so an excellent to upgrade to OMV. But - I am confused. I “thought” I could point my PMS to the OMV as it is an NAS. But…I am at a loss to understand how. All my research states that PMS or PLEX needs to be installed on / in OMV. Any help to help this newbie would be appreciated.
- You can point your existing PMS install to shared folders on OMV. Check OMV wiki/faq to see how you can make shared folders
- You could install PMS on OMV. This could be done via portainer /docker
P.S have you read the new user guide https://wiki.omv-extras.org/doku.php?id=omv6:new_user_guide
Have read the OMV FAQs, they did not address my question. They did hold a couple of other data points for me though - thanks!
I also read the new user guide (again - as the first time was pretty quick - just to make sure I did not miss anything.) And it does not address my question. Well - not directly.
It does present how to establish and connect your Windows PC - and I have completed that.
What I now need to do is connect my PLEX RPi4 to the OMV.
I think I need to update (point) my PLEX RPi4 via the fstab file to the OMV. But how?
Having switched from my old RPi4 NAS to OMV, I used the following command in fstab:
//192.168.0.38/share /mnt cifs rw,credentials=/home/pi/.smbcredentials,forceuid,uid=1000,forcegid,gid=1000,x-systemd.automount 0 0
Ok - this is where I am now confused. I have two drives on the OMV. The shared folders are pi_1 on one drive and pi_2 on another drive. Do I need to make two entries:
//192.168.0.32/pi_1 /mnt cifs rw,credentials=/home/pi/.smbcredentials,forceuid,uid=1000,forcegid,gid=1000,x-systemd.automount 0 0
//192.168.0.32/pi_2 /mnt cifs rw,credentials=/home/pi/.smbcredentials,forceuid,uid=1000,forcegid,gid=1000,x-systemd.automount 0 0
but - what goes in place of “/mnt”? Its a different ?mnt" folder in OMV.
1.you need to make two entries for pi_1 and pi_2 in your fstab.
2. the /home/pi parts needs to be different for both these entries, you could use pi1 and pi2 for eg.
3. the exact path of the smb share will depend on OMV, a quick google search shows this is likely to e //192.168.0.32/pi_2 (unless you have a folder /mnt in this share that you want to mount) - if this does not work, ask in the OMV forums.
