I setup my local plex server to use Amazon Cloud Drive for storage. It works fantastic, able to watch 30GB bluray moves with near same performance as my local NAS.
But, and this is what destroys the entire solution to the point it is unusable, updating library even for a single movie takes hours (sometimes as much as 4hr-8hrs). It’s so slow, that any benefit of the system is quickly dwarfed by the fact you can upload a movie/tv show and have to wait hours for it to even show up and there is no way to speed it up or see the progress.
I assume this is why ACD isn’t an option for Plex Cloud anymore, but none of the other storage options are practical financially. At that point you better off just storing them locally.
Yes using a cloud storage provider as a network drive will have issues, as you can see long library scans.
I have been running this for a couple years now. It can vary depending on if you are running Windows or Linux.
What i have done, using Windows and Netdrive. Is create a library with 2 folders.
Media -----TV Series -----TV Series (Recent)
I have all my new recently added shows go into the Recent folder, while all my previous season and ended shows are in the TV Series.
Next setup 2 tasks to run.
Task# 1 - set to scan every 15 minutes. it will scan the TV Series (recent directory) you do this by using the Plex Command line to scan a directory. This should only take a few minutes, since there is not a lot of media files in this folder.
Task# 2 - i set this scan to scan once every 2 weeks, this will do a full scan on your library, it will usually take a couple days to complete. This is used for making sure our library is tidy and readd’s any files that might of been moved from recently added to the TV Series folder.
If you do this method, you will have to go through and move files from the recently added folder over to the TV Series folder, eventually. There are programs that can do this for you.
By doing it this way though you can get short scan times on your library.
If you want to read up a little more on it, here is a thread that might help
Also, I find that if a particular added movie / tv show is not updating (getting the endless circle) going to the poster (or grey square) and clicking on the far left (3 dots) brings up another menu and I choose “refresh” for that specific title and it seems to work.
edit. Nevermind, you’re not getting anything added. My issues are the title gets added but no poster or info.

I figured it out, got scanning down to less than 60 seconds. I had previews on which was causing it to be painfully slow.
where do you change this setting?
I believe by default it is off, but I turned it on so I would have more preview thumbnails.
It is under Library settings on the server. I turned them all off but suspect Chapter ones won’t be too bad.

Thanks Saxi,
I just looked under the settings of my cloud server but did not see a library section. Did see others like general, agents extra etc. where exactly did you find this. Just curious. Or should I edit the library itself?

I am using local Plex server with my own ACD connection. I don’t know what Cloud version has, so I am not sure if it is even an option. Once I turned them off though, stuff is not much slower than local NAS. It’s just playback has been an issue w/ Amazon lately as is uploading. I think they are throttling connections more.
