Plex Web Export

Hi jasoncm23, sorry for the late reply. While I can't currently get the sort title out of Plex itself, the exporter itself ignores any a, the, der, die, das's at the beginning of a title. I think this was added to one of the later revisions, so if you downloaded an early version of the exporter you might want to download the new version. If you've got the latest version please let me know which films are in the wrong place and I'll see what's causing it.

The attribute is called titleSort and it only appears if it's different from title.

Ah cool, once again thank you!

That's ok! Thanks for your reply. No films are necessarily out of place, sometimes I just like them in a particular order. For e.g. I have many of the Harry Potter films, and when I scroll through my movies list in Plex I like to view them in the order in which they were released. So, the first film was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the second was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the third was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, etc. Allowing Plex to sort these by their 'Title' usually means that they will be out of their natural order (i.e. their release order), so I like to change their 'Sort Title' to 'Harry Potter 1', 'Harry Potter 2', 'Harry Potter 3', etc. It would be awesome if your exporter could follow this sorting arrangement.

I have many other examples; another would be the Twilight series - I like them to appear in my Movies List together, where Twilight is sorted as 'Twilight 1', and New Moon is sorted as 'Twilight 2'. I think it just makes my media list much more user-friendly.

Thanks for your help with this one :)

Makes perfect sense, and following Brian's advice, the new exporter will use the options you set in Plex :)

Just chiming in for the ‘Date added’ option please - friends moaning they can’t tell what’s new in my library. Some people are difficult to please, I know.

Keep up the great work!

I have a date added option working, just got to wait for Plex to push out the update for you guys so I can release v2.

Just to let everyone know how Plex Export v2 is slowly getting nearer and nearer to its first release! For anyone who wants dedicated updates I’ve now set up a dedicated twitter account for it, @PlexExport. Thanks for your patience!

Is Plex Web Export 2.0 able to stream files ala javascript by sanders1? I'd like to let my colleagues stream my files but would rather not allow them to mess with my library.

I've decided to keep video playback support out of Plex Export due to the extra complexity it would add for most users. Sanders script (which is awesome) already has a lot of groundwork done for it because you have to be on the Plex Manager page to be able to use it. Plex Export by comparison could be anywhere, a web server, Dropbox account etc, and won't know where your Manager is as you could be outside your home network etc.

If enough people truly want this, I may look at adding support for it via a plugin :)

Well count me in then. Reason why I would prefer to use your script instead of PMM is that I'd like to give out access to family members/friends to stream my videos but I dont like the fact that they would also be able to add/delete/edit my media.

Anyone want to explain to a total n00b how to install php on my mac? I was able to run plex export via the terminal commands and saw that all of the data was extracted from my PMS, but I obviously dont have php installed as the index html file was blank.

@Nick the index.HTML file should be blank, all of your films are stored in the plex-data folder. When you open the index it loads them all for you. If you use Chrome and open the file directly (e.g, file//users) it won’t load correctly because of security measures in chrome.

I believe Mac OS X comes with php pre-installed.

Yes! I really really like it the way it is....
Please don´t add stream support, it will make the software larger, more error prone, riskier to put on the web, would need a login system.... arrrgh
What some people want is a PMM with permissions! Ask for that, don´t mess with a project that already is perfectly good and useful!

Hello Dachande663,

wow this projects becomes greater and greater! It’s really impressive what you’ve created!!!

For you who uses a iOS device.

The great program Goodreader is now able to sync with different servers e.g. Dropbox.

With this combination you have always your library with you.

Unfortunately it seems that displaying the whole library is very slow, perhaps there is the possibility to include speed improvements in the future.

@rsalmei: different users have different wishes. Please be fair and let other user also have their own opinion.

Hi Thomas I have tried goodreader, I’ll look at improving performance for you.

Hi Dachande663,

that is a real fast answering.

Thanks for your support.

Do you like this solution?

If I can support you in his topic, just let me know.

Cheers Thomas

@Dachande663 Thanks for the help and I am all up and running. Really a slick tool and a great way to brag to my friends about my collection. Keep up the good work.

Sorry Thomas if I sounded aggressive, was only trying to give my opinion too. It´s a strong one, by the way...
