@rsalmei: no problem!
Discussions brings us forward
Exactly. Thanks for keeping the conversation civil guys, it's what makes Plex such an awesome community!
@rsalmei I'm with you, lets not bloat a simple but great program.
I know that thereās already been a discussion about streaming video and the problems that comes with that the server has to be run on the same host as Plex. However, I canāt resist suggesting creating a plug-in that would make this beautiful interface become a remote control for Plex. Imagine having a small laptop on your sofa table and choose what film you want to see through this interface. Then you just click a button and it starts playing on your television. Using it as a remote control wouldnāt need a user and password system, since you could hide it behind your firewall. I understand if this is probably too much to ask for, it would just be to awesome not to ask for.
Or if you have an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or any Android device you can get the Plex app to do that ;) Laptops make for clunky remotes.
Yes, that was my point, you already have apps to do that. I was only short on examples.
But I was browsing right now the Android Market and there are several apps for Plex, including a remote control and one that streams content.
Hi guys. After a few fits and starts, I have Plex Export working great. THANK YOU!!!
I put the entire plexport folder in my MobileMe Web/Sites/ folder, and Iām executing the cli.php file (through Terminal) in that location, so every execution is visible from the web.
Iāve seen advice in this thread that, for DropBox or MobileMe, the Plex Export content files should be copied, but not the cli.php file. Am I risking something by including the cli.php file in my MobileMe Web/Site/ folder? I know it can be seen from the web, but I donāt see any personal or network information in it. Again, I like it there for simplicityās sake, but Iām no programmer, and I donāt know what I donāt know.
@LovingPlex itās fine to leave it in there, it canāt do any harm and has no personal information. I think most people remove it so they have a clean folder. Just be sure to remove it if you change hosts to one that supports PHP.
Thank you! Iāve read through this forum. You have been amazingly on top of this ā and still in college! I anticipate and hope for a bright future for you.
really like this a lotā¦may i ask for an enhancement? maybe a ārecently addedā view? would be great for sharing libraries with friendsā¦
Fantastic work.
Is it possible to get with Plex web export the path of the movie ?
It will be super to launch directly a movie just with on click on the picture on a local machine.
In progress.
Can someone point me to a php download linkā¦i just want to be sure i install it properly and Iād really like to try this. Also, for us tech nobs, can you provide a step by step install guide? Thanks.
As long as you have a recent version of OS X, you will have PHP already installed.
There were some instructions in an earlier post/readme but in quick:

Download the zip file from GitHub

Extract and put it somewhere e.g. on your Desktop

Open Terminal and type "cd ~/Desktop/plexexport" (without quotes, change the path as necessary)

Type in "php cli.php" and watch the magic

You will now be able to open the index.html file in a browser and view your library.
Let me know if you have any problems :)
1). Thank you very much for your patience and guidance, much appreciated.
2) This is wicked cool.
3) May I put something in the suggestion box? Maybe the ability to screen on ārecently addedā or even some of the Plex sub-menu items (unwatched, recently released, etc).
4) does this automatically update? or do i have to run step 4 in your instructions everytime i add a new movie
5) if I want to make this available to folks outside my network, do i only need to move the index file to the appropriate web server?
Thanks again.
@cfriedberg
3. Coming in Version 2.
4. You have to run the cli.php file again, it will then update all the necessary files.
5. You need to copy everything except the cli.php file.
@Marv useful tip for those just starting out on the command line.
RE: Version 2.0
It is on itās way I promise. Many of the features you guys have requested (filter by more things, sort by date added etc) have being added while others (play files from within the export) are either not implemented purposefully or may be added in later via extensions. I wish I could give you guys a timeline but I wouldnāt want to let you down. Hopefully you wonāt be disappointed and the current version will still be updated to keep in track with Plex proper. (Also donāt forget to check out localhost:32400/manage for a lot of the requested functionality, itās the media manager in your browser and offers a lot of the functions people have being asking for!)
Marv, ?
Edit: Ah, nevermind.
Edit: Will V2 include auto update say every x hours or so like PlexFlix? That would be greatā¦
It won't handle updating itself. Keeping it as a command line script means people can tie it into existing workflows they might have (which I know a few people do) and Launchd can automate the rest. I'll probably include some sample plists/installers in the next version to help people get started.
3) I think the 'recently added' feature is already part of the new version for when the next Plex update comes out. So not long to go!
4) It doesn't automatically update, but you can set it up to run the commands automatically. I don't know the instructions off by heart, but they (many different methods) are in this thread somewhere.
5) The 'assets' and 'plex-data' folder need to be in the same location as the index.html file.
EDIT: Ha. While I was slowly writing this post, the ungodly-fast Dachande663 already replied to everything! :(
