Server Version#: 1.25.5.5492
Player Version#: 4.69.1 (Plex Web)
Starting in January I started noticing that some content shows a runtime of exactly 2 hours even if it’s way shorter than that. From TV shows that are 45 minutes long, and children’s shows that are 10-20 minutes long this randomly happens for me. This problem has persisted across server version updates.
I’ve only seen this in FireFox. I don’t use the other browsers for Plex because of an issue I noticed in which if the sound isn’t supported (lice AC# audio) FF will transcode it to AAC and the other browsers would just play silently until I force transcoding of the entire video. I don’t know if that’s been addressed yet.
Workarounds
- Transcode the file (transocde automatically or to maximum is enough to fix it)
- Load or unload a subtitle track. Alternatively, you can switch from 1 subtitle track to another
- Skip to the next video manually and then immediately skip back (doesn’t work 100% of the time yet the others do)
- When it freezes at the end, skip to the next item in the playlist and mark this one as played. If you don’t manually mark as played, it will continue to show up in “On Deck” and “Continue playing”
Before posting here, I read through this thread and some reddit threads that showed up in my web search but no solution seemed to work for anyone. In the plex forums thread, I couldn’t respond as the topic has been locked so I thought to post it again in case anyone has found something that fixes it. The OP in that post said it happens very frequently (90% of the time for them) but it’s quite rare and random for me.
The last solution I’m going to try is to Analyze my entire library and hope that it is addressed. Since the problem is random and infrequent for me I cannot determine when or if I’ll know if that addressed the problem. I’m putting a reminder to post back in a week whether or not it has happened again. If it happens before then I’ll be sure to update here that it is not a solution.
